I've tried several street cars built for rally. I tested one that I've had my eye on tonight and if you're interested it's the Acura DNX Concept. I built the 01 although I also have the 02. I painted it black with blue wheels that match the tinted windows. If the game would allow you to buy the "torque sensing center diff." the car would be right there with the WRC cars. The wheelbase is a little too long also. It doesn't respond quite as fast as you'd like it to but it sure does make an interesting rally car. If you're not familiar with it it's mid engine & does have 4WD.
I also built and tested the Lancia Stratos. The car comes with a huge rear wt. bias. With some work I got it to where it was enjoyable as a rally car but not quite fast enough. However, before I moved on, I put a set of RS on the rear and RM on the front and it was just right. So I've got a great new race car out of a car that I couldn't stand to drive before. I knew there had to be a reason that they put the money into it to develope it into a good rally car. Check out the videos on youtube of the Stratos running rallies.
I also did a final run with a few rally cars. I've found that with some fine tuning I can get most of them in the ballpark. Within about 1.5 sec. I've noticed Celica is fast in anything he shows up with. Man it's hard to run consistent laps on dirt and snow.
Nick, I never listen to music when I'm on GT5. It's too disstracting for me. I put on head phones and listen to the sound of the engine. That helps me a lot.
Speaking of engine sounds. Like Air said the Fiat 500s sound sick. The engine sound like static. I tested the Lancia HF today after the Fiat and it too sounds that way. What is it, Italian cars with a turbo are supposed to sound that way? Oh well, MOST of the engine sounds in the game sound good although I don't think all of them are very accurate.
