    38-Million Candlepower

I saw this in PopSci a while back, apparently there is a whole community of people who modify flashlights for huge output. I have no use whatsoever for a light like this, but man do I want one!

OMG That's like a mini portable version of the lights from that pyramid-casino (Luxor?) in Vegas...

“It’s not a torch you’d walk your dog with,” he says. “It would probably cook your dog.”

    LOL

what better light to have , tonight (Or tomorrow night in less snooty neighborhoods!)

( Standing over a smoking pile of costume and mask..and melted candy....)

cabelas has a couple different versions similar to that one (even look the same) for under $100

and an HID one with about 15M Candlepower (and a 60 minute run time) for $180

I, personally, think that the flashlight I built with a 5W luxeon star LED (about 150 Lumens) is just fine.

Isn't the "flashlight" shown in the picture really the inspiration for the Star Wars light saber? Almost looks like it could slice Obi Wan in two.

    I wonder if it's a phallic thing.

I've been known to hot-rod a flashlight or two. My first one was taking one of the old flat Duracell units and fitting a 9 volt battery into it. Didn't last long, but it threw a lot of light.

That pic would have been so much funnier if he had pointed the light at the moon.

I'm thinking of something that involves copius quantities of flash powder and a very long wick.

That article is incorrect! The actual light output is 52 million candle power

About a year ago, there was a post in the Off Topic section about LED's that contained a link to forum for flashlight enthusiasts. I forwarded the link to a friend who is an electrical engineer, along without a note about how, no matter wacky or mundane the item is, there is always a group of enthusiasts for it.

He has spent the last twelve months building hundreds of amazing, modified flashlights.

I have a two-million candlepower rechargable flashlight that I used to think was mighty bright. Now I see I got nothin'.
