We have a black C6-Z06 here that was a drug repo car. It looks mean, and I doubt anyone tries to run from it.

We actually have a UC 350z (I think it was a seizure car) that's all built to hell running around here. Mostly used to infiltrate street racing rings (Seriously.)

We have a mix around here: MHP is using more Chargers, while the City PD's still have a lot of P71's running around. For drug-seized cars, however, nothing beats the then-new Lincoln Continental that they let the Sheriff use. That one was a riot.

Besides the P71s which are being replaced by Chargers, I noticed recently that we have unmarked, hidden-lights-ed, Mustangs.
It conflicts with my indefensible-in-court personal bias that if I'm paying enough attention to see a cop car and am not going too fast to slow down subtly that I'm not a menace to anybody...

There's a black modded WRX used for street racing stuffs around here.
But the ones that bug me the most are the unmarked Mustang GTs. They're just... sneaky.

Romulus MI has a burgundy Durango. I saw it in the median of I-275 at the I-94 interchange. Only marked on one side.

Seems like I heard someone locally got pulled by a cop in a Jetta.
For a while SCHP had a free BMW auto that they used to prowl I-85 near....the BMW plant.

I saw that EXACT car earlier today. It was parked at the River Rouge facility. I would hit it.

I have a real problem with marked or unmarked tax cars sitting in medians looking for people doing a few over the limit. You're spending how much of my money to have a tax collector sitting on the side of the road, hiding behind a crack dealer or a bridge looking to give out a alternate road tax? Get in my car (we paid for it, we own it) and go do some work. Yes I know, there have been some monumental baddies captured as a result of a traffic stop. Why is it then, when someone is doing 100 on the shoulder (have seen it) or doing a wheelie going down I-75 you NEVER see that guy stopped down the road? I've been pulled over for 6 and 7 over on 6 dozen occasions over the years.
I've called the cops too many times for serious (traffic and non-traffic issues) and had no response to be ok with seeing them sitting there doing nothing. Every job I've ever worked for I've had a main objective and secondary objectives. At a previous job, when I was in the office I was to handle tech support phone calls. If there were no calls at that time, I was to work on developing training, or engineering support, or R & D testing. Give the tax officers a list of baddies to go after. If on the way to capture the crim you see the guy doing 100 on the shoulder, bring him in because he is a danger to society. If you see a guy doing 80 in a 70, sure, give him a tax bill. But don't sit there, eating my dollars while doing nothing.

Either way, Dodge and Chevy don't make vehicles that are actually made to handle the punishment of police work. I was talking recently with a St. Louis County mechanic about the condition of the Impalas. Apparently they are in rough shape.
Not sure about Dodge, but Chevy's looking to fix that:
Too bad there are no civilian versions in the works and the retired ones will be recycled instead of sold.
where did you hear that they are going to be scrapped at the end of their service life?
I read it on Autoblog. I will have to look up where I found it. IIRC, the new Caprice PPV has not been tested for safety or emissions. Since it is only intended for gov't/LEO buyers, it can be waivered in. However, since the Caprice PPVs don't meet safety/emissions standards, they can't be sold to the public for on-road use and I doubt GM or a Motorex-type company will spring up to make them street-legal. So, off to the crushers they go.
EDIT: Maybe they won't be crushed. I can't find any article that definitively says retired Caprice PPVs will be crushed, but it's a possibility given they don't meet safety/emissions regulations. This article confirms, though that the new Caprice PPV does not meet safety/emissions regulations.

I may be the minority here but the Carbon Motors police cruiser doesn't seem all that attractive.
BMW I6 diesel
Honda Accord performance numbers
I like the fact the boys in blue have more protection in it as well as the sweet rear doors, but if you could buy them at the end of the life cycle (which you are not supposed to) I see nothing that would make me really want one.
Other than domestically available diesel with 4 doors does anyone else see the public appeal of these cars?

I like them, but I don't think they'll ever sell. Accord performance now, but that sure could change with current BMW engines. The biggest issue I see? Service. I doubt many municipality technicians are BMW techs so there would be new technology to learn, and the vehicle is a miss-mash of products and companies so the guy that has been working on P71 for 15 years, while he can easily segway into the Challengers may have a harder time learning the Carbon car. And, for a smaller municipality that relies on dealership or local service station, what do they do for service?
But, forget about the powertrain being odd-ball, the car is purpose-built. I bet cops would love it. Look at how the lights are built into the roof. That's a nice touch that will boost fuel economy. -

In reply to DrBoost:
The cops don't care about fuel economy. They want safe, and professional looking with sufficient power. Really any of the new police models will work. I'd be chill with the new Taurus, Charger, or Caprice. I'm a Ford guy, so Taurus is number one, plus the handling is tops which translates to safety.

Oh I know the cop doesn't care about economy, but he isn't the one buying the car. IF, and that's a big if, the Carbon car can even come close to the other offerings but get diesel economy they'd be a strong contender. And for the reason you mentioned, the Carbon car would be a cop favorite, I think. Have you read about it. It's like it was designed by cops.

Haven't seen any Challenger cop cars in my area. Just Chargers and the occasional Tahoe. I also saw a Chevy Express cop van pull over a speeder a few months back. Unmarked, natch. Haven't seen any P71s in forever.
