The patch that looks like a hand-printed convention name tag? Nah, our friend Karl has some serious connections or some srs skillz.

You want to meet the girls with the shade? You have to be the coolest dog in the paddock. Then you get the real smiles.

In Keith's defense, I'm sure he meant to say that they were 18 year old high school Seniors.

I don't care how old they were, they were just holding umbrellas. And I don't think they were 18, they struck me as being from the JV squad. I thought it was fun to watch them doing something they felt was important, unlike the typical hired model who cannot wait to collect a paycheck and get home. I don't letch on every female I see, even if they are holding an umbrella.

Keith, if that was the Gp.44 reunion weekend, I remember that. At first, I thought it was kinda creepy ("..don't these people realize what Grid Girls are for a lot of guys?.."). But after looking at a vintage race as a festival, instead of a race, I kinda saw where the organizers were coming from. Wholesome American Fun Party for everyone, including the kids. They were looking for a "Fourth of July" or "County Fair" kind of atmosphere. There's two of em standing on the rail in this pic of the CM GT-6 that I took.

Is that Turbodog down there in front of those lovelies (loving the new print ads w/TD in the drivers' seat BTW..)?

At Road America a few years ago the Swisher Girls walked right into the hot pits on race day, right past the security gaurds without so much as a word. About 20 ft behind the Swisher Girls was a group of 20 gawking guys. It was pretty amusing to see.

Yes. I lost the cable that allows me to upload pics from my phone to my computer.

Yup, that's Turbodog picking up the ladies at a GT Live event.

And yup, it was the same year they had the big Group 44 reunion. 2009, I think. For all I know, the same squads come out every year to stage the cars at the Mitty. That was just the only time I made it down to the grid. It's a lot more refreshing to see real people making the event happen than a bunch of hired pros. It's not as if they were real F1 drivers in the cars either

Some of these girls are damn pretty - but they keep making more pretty young girls. I'd sell them all down the river for this car.

You've said much with which I agree, sir! Yeah, pro races are different, but at a vintage race, I don't find the decision to use underage girls as freaky as I once did..

If you don't want to subscribe to CM, at least buy the the back issues containing that project. That thing's the real deal. Tim found the ex-Gp44 GT-6 (1969 E-Prod National Championship car) in a barn in NC, and restored it well enough to run it at the Monterey Historics.

I recall the last time I was at the Mitty (several years back) the Playboy MX5 cup was running, guess who was on the grid with umbrellas that day..... little bunnies. I remember the HS cheerleaders and thinking it was kinda creepy at first until I figured out that it was a fund raiser and they were in uniform not the typical Unbrella girl attire.

At NASA-SE races we have one Umbrella Girl but we call her co-Chief of Grid and she tends to be holding the unbrella for me so I am biased.
