    how come he has an animated avatar? I thought this forum doesn't allow animated ones?

    Because he very carefully read the post that explained that if the system doesn't have to resize your avatar, it won't kill the animation, then took advantage of that little snippet of information. He's not the only one.

    In safari, it's just a preference setting. In firefox, its a little more complicated:

    go to about:config (in the address bar),
    filter for "animation"
    Change "normal" to "none"

    or you could just hit escape and stop all animations
