The John Wyer GT40-based Mirages were quite appealing, too:

The cars featured a bigger 351cid engine, some attention to adding lightness and revised aerodynamics. Think of them as the possible offspring of a GT40-on-steroids mating with a Ferrari P3 or P4.

How would a Cobra look with the Gulf oil livery?

Eric Heinrich contacted Gulf with a request for exactly that for his e30 M3 J-Stock racecar and actually got a response acknowledging their approval making it an 'official' of sorts gulf car

you might be able to find him on www.s14.net to ask who/how he contacted there. i'm going to an autocross that he's registered for so i'll ask him if i remember.

Yep that was me. Yes I reached out to GULF in the US and the UK. It's a good thing I did, becuase they both take usage of their trademark very seriously. Gulf Oil international has even gone so far as to obtain an Internationl trademark for the usage of the Light Blue/Marigold orange livery.

Interestingly enough, GULF in the US was mostly concerned with the legal rights/usage etc, and GULF Oil Int'l was primarily concerned with the racing, results and LeMans.

I've been trying to contact Martini, but haven't actually managed to get a response yet. It's difficult to find contact info, I think I'm going to have to get a phone book for whatever city they're based in.

    Awesome.

I have this vision of a Robin's Egg Blue matte finish on a Cobra, with blacked out chrome/stainless trim and steelies. I think I saw a similar color scheme on a FFR (in the Mag?), which kicked off the fantasy.

Ooh, Gulf livery on a widebody Sebring MG BGT? I think so.

Here Just found a Gulf Racing Delorean on Ebay. It's the only car I've seen that doesn't look good in those colors.

My brother loved this livery, I made a 944 for him in Forza 2 with it all decked out. It's just a nice basic scheme that goes well on almost anything.

The car I drove at the 13hrs of VIR is on this website. The first really good picture of it starts at pic 139. Our sister cars, 53 and 59 have a few pics in there as well.

I like the Gulf Porsche 908 better than the 917. It's like a 1/12th scale RC carpet car for humans.

    Also available in Martini!

The Gulf livery even looks good on cars with barely enough bodywork to hold the orange stripe.
