Was that factory? Not great, but it looks better than the 5 year old Accord running around my town with a vinyl top.

Unfortunate, but not unusual for the time.

The fake convertible tops are way beyond the edge for me, I'm afraid.

    I don't hate the vinyl on that 240. I don't love it, but I don't hate it.

Remember a dealer telling my father they can just peel the vinyl off if he dosn't want it - father sadi go ahead - a tech explained to the salesman that it won't look that good just ripping it off... not a fan but it dosn't look horrible - compared to all the 300c's around here with horrible looking tops on them

Worse than that 240 a vinyl roof with a moonroof in the middle of it. Did they miss the fact that the fake roof is SUPPOSED to look like a convertible?

I don't think the vinyl roof is supposed to look like a convertible.

What you talking about those caddies are eqquiped with quality simcon tops. (SIMulated CONvertible.. Get it? I don't)

The origional vehicle has an appeal like a vynil roofed Chevelle SS does..

Vinyl roofs are supposed to look like that 240, not like the caddy.

The 240 doesn't look all that bad, tho I've never seen a red 240 with a tan interior.

Back in the late '60s to late '70s when these Japanese cars were first being imported in huge numbers, but at rock bottom prices, it was next to impossible to get one WITHOUT a vinyl top. BTW, these weren't usually dealer installed, but distributor installed. Unfortunately, one of the styles of vinyl top that was used, and looked pretty bad (at least to me) was the half roof. Those had vinyl that only covered the back half of the roof leaving the front half body colored.

Someone near me has a late model (like an '06) Toyota Corolla that is white with an off-white vinyl top.

I also agree with the sentiment here....a vinyl roof, especially a faux convertible roof, on a car with a moonroof looks kind of dumb.

Ah, yes. The Landau roof, I believe it was called.

There are some cars I think look good with a vinyl top.

    But not many.
