    Teach me how!

Part of the reason i was excited about my PS3 was so i could watch youtube videos in all their sound and visual glory on my HD tv and stereo setup.

Looks like all i can get is 240p, and AWFUL sound.

Anyone have a way around this? I've tried using the PS3-specific thing, and no change.

Well.... that only works if i have the video stored on the laptop already. I can do that. I'm not interested in somehow capturing the youtube videos for example... i just want to go to a link and play them in HD from my PS3.

    Try this:

"For any youtube video, you can add &html5=True to the address to get the "real" video "

Don't use a PS3 and build a real computer with a HDCP capable video card? I think mine cost around $2-300 and I don't have to deal with Sony's locked down BS (just Microsoft's, but Windows XP doesn't have the DRM crap, so it works just fine, thanks, LOL)

Hrm... You've piqued my interest. Finding surprisingly little on the subject, but this is interesting: HD on PS3: Is it possible?

The browser on the PS3 is crappy +1 on the above.

I agree the PS3 browser is crap. I'm not sure if the problem with YouTube is Sony or YouTube, but there are solutions.

    Look at http://www.ps3youtube.com/ and http://danielb.info/ps3/bookmarklet.aspx

Both are sort of cumbersome, but do work. I use the bookmarklet for my infrequent YouTube browsing on PS3.

Shame on Sony, this is stuff that should "Just Work"(tm) on a device that has the slogan “It Only Does Everything.”.

oh my god the browser in the ps3 is basically on the level of IE5 in terms of quality.

    its terrible.

And Sony seems to be more preoccupied with releasing patches whos only purpose is to try and block new system cracks found rather than develop their product any further.

Uh, yeah. Have you looked at Sony's product history? They've always done things their way and have done everything they could do to screw their customers. They are the Oracle of the AV world.

    Not really.

their behavior is typical of any company who wants to control standards.

I have read the issue is with memory, as in not enough.

256 mb system ram is more than enough to run a lightweight.... WORKING browser and most its plugins.

Unless your browser is crap.... or your OS is crap.

I had no problem surfing complicated sites with 64mb on a Windows 2000 system. And this was before Firefox mattered.

If I go back and setup a single core machine with win2k now and load FF, or Chrome, or Opera, they use the pagefile as needed with that measley 64mb with Flash running and don't suffer the convulsions that the ps3 does.

I tried streaming video on a Xbox 360 and it blew. Paid $99 for a Apple TV and the difference is night and day. It does YouTube videos quite nicely. Plus you'll be able to stream your Itunes catalog straight from your computer without the need for a Ipod. I know that this doesn't help you with your PS3 problem though.

Damn, I'm starting to sound like a Apple salesman now.....
