Common sense like don't use the power windows when you car is filled with an explosive gas?

Too bad they don't make a cap to protect the nozzle on the gas bottles, oh wait they do! Honestly anyone who transports gas and doesn't use any common sense should expect consequences for their actions.

Transporting a filled gas cylinder without the cap is against federal law. When I took welding classes, we got a demonstration of how powerful an explosive acetylene is. Please don't tell any terrorists.

That happened in Regina, which is a government town, so that may explain some of it...There were so many layers of Stupid to get to that result it boggles the mind.

Hey easy now! Oh wait, I don't live there anymore...! Haha, I didn't see the Sask tags on the truck in the first picture. All I thought was - Hey, that looks like the SGI yard!!!

Super lucky to be alive. Stupid, but lucky.

WTF is it with people blowing their cars up with acetylene?

    http://www.autoblog.com/2006/02/13/todays-darwin-moment-acetylene-balloon-plus-sta...

Heh - a pair of unnamed Colorado residents were introduced to the fun of blown-out windows (and eardrums) after making the discovery that balloons will pick up a lot of static electricity when sliding across a car seat. Normally this isn't a problem, but when a balloon is filled with, say, acetylene, problems ensue.

Autoblog does not endorse the idea of filling balloons with a highly combustible mixture of oxygen and acetylene, but if one feels the need to do such a thing (we've all been there), then let's be somewhat intelligent and not attempt to transport these accidents waiting to happen.

Wait, so it didn't explode when he backed it out of the garage, but it did explode when he touched the power window button?

I don't know where to begin...

What's really amazing is you can see where the gas permeated into the body structure. Before I clicked, I was wondering how they essentially skinned the top layer of metal off the truck. This was a very effective way of doing that.

I made an acetylene bomb with a balloon once. You wouldn't believe how powerful that thing was.

    Maybe you would,.

like was said in that thread.. if he had just opened the doors and hatch and let it sit.. he wouldn't have had a problem.

My BIL used to fill trash bags with acetylene and tape a strip of newspaper to it as a fuse...

He'd set it out in the middle of a field and run like hell. It made a hell of a bang but never really made much of a crater.

We used to do that at an old junk yard I worked at shortly after high school.

We also used to shoot tennis balls out of old drive shaft tubes with oxy/acetylene. Think potato gun, with a LOT more bang. It would shoot a tennis ball nearly a 1/4 mile.

That was an excellent example of Darwinism. While not sucessful this time, that guy will eventually remove himself from the gene pool.
