Well, other than Sony is the most evil of all evil corporations, and it's just generally a bad idea to give them money. Which is sad, because I really do like a number of their products.

How much are warranties worth on DSLR's? I am considering a refurbished d7000 and don't know whether to spend more to get one with a one or two year warranty or get the least expensive one with just the 90 day.

Sony is one of the biggest backers of the MPAA/RIAA.

starting to think i may be less in the market for an SLR due to its size and harder to carry around easier. However the higher end point and shoot fuax slr cameras look appealing.
the SLR style cameras annoy me... a lot of bulk of an SLR but not near the speed or options... only good is they tend to have a long optical zoom...
I understand a point and shoot... but why get one that has the limitations of a PnS while the bulk of an SLR :-/...

There's a lot of higher-end P&S options, only some of which are almost SLR-sized. Basically, you either go high-end features (i.e., G12) or longer zoom (SX40). You should go somewhere that you can put hands-on and see what works for you.
FWIW, I also decided that it was better to have a smaller camera that I would carry more often than an SLR that would only come out when I had a specific reason. I like my G12.

nope... more or less I was saying what 02pilot said... the camera you will get the best pics with is the one you will use... these days phones are capturing some amazing things because they are carried and used...
I would like to pick up a small PnS to carry when I don't have my dSLR... might look into that come income tax time...

that being said... if you want to shoot action (kids moving) or things in low light where a flash isn't permitted you'll want an SLR... but if you leave the camera at home in the drawer because it's to bulky you'll get far better pics with something you'll carry with you ;-)
If you don't want to have the huge bulk of an SLR you should look at Panasonic Lumix's. Panasonic really has their stuff together right now and even use Leica lenses. Their mirrorless cameras are IMO top notch, above the rest of the market by a long shot. They give you the option of interchangeable lenses but in a smaller package. Mirrorless is the future of SLR technology (I know that statement didn't make technical sense) and Panasonic is ahead of the game.
My dad just bought my mom a Lumix ZS8 for Christmas with a Leica lens and it is super nice. It has great picture quality and that lens is stellar!
Mirror-less is an option, there are big limitations right now, and given that it is new, lots of questions. They do not yet match up the IQ od a true SLR, but it does seem logical that eventually mirrorless will be the standard. Only because mechanical shutters can fail so why risk it...
