In reply to kazoospec:

Yeah, I wasn't sure looking at the ad, if you get the whole island or just the structure? Did you look how far out it is from the main land? By my estimations, 6 miles. You'll need a decent boat to get you off of the island when a surprise storm comes up on the horizon.

Considering how they're built and how long they've lasted, you're probably better off in the lighthouse.

By the size of the concrete pads It looks like there used to be 2 other buildings on that island of a significant size. Wonder if those surprise storms had anything to do with the buildings being gone.

Those tend to be pretty tough buildings:

Wonder if the island is included, can you put break walls in to encourage sand and stuff to be deposited in the area? Then plant some stuff to stabilize, and you have instant property.

It amazes me that people who can write and speak English are able to use this many words and not be able to clearly state what is being sold.

My interpretation is that you must take your chunk of concrete and the buildings and put them somewhere else?

The subject property is located eleven miles off the eastern end of Bois Blanc Island on the waters of Lake Huron, Michigan, at 45.7730260, -84.1380010. The Property contains a an 86-foot tall gray conical light tower on a concrete crib. Only the improvements are included in this sale. No land will be conveyed.

You would need to own a dredge to clear a channel through the shoal to even get a speed boat there.....

Looks like you buy the building, and lease the land. I'm betting the land is cheap, but you most likely have to insure the light house for a good amount of money, if the beacon is functioning and recognized by the USCG.

I'm guessing most of these go to preservation groups/societies. There was one for sale locally a couple years ago.

The red one out in the water. The white one on the left is the USCG and so is most of the land in the photo.

Ohhh. The invitation to bid document has all of the information necessary. Lead based paint, asbestos... buyer beware.

On the first one? I could drive my boat right up to the shore on that sand. I bet that anything up to about 23 feet really wouldn't have much issue.

Whether or not it is wise to take anything that small on Lake Michigan at any given point is a different debate though.
