Here is my roof rack I made. It is 3/4 inch and 1/2 inch EMT Conduit. I did not weld it, I used sheet metal screws. it is 7 feet long and 46inches wide. I attached it to the stock roof rack with U bolts.

I still have to paint it. I will use a special primer made for Zinc coated metals.

Very nice. And it can support an entire tree!

+1 on the tree. Well planted, but I bet overpasses are a pain.

Nice looking rack...that didn't come out right.

I would be a bit concerned about the screws vibrating loose. Can you get some Loc Tite in there?

I will keep my eye on them. If they start backing out I will probably "tack weld" it. I am trying to avoid welding due to Galvanized poisining from the Zinc Oxyde gase that is geven off.

You could then hoist the aspire up by connecting a come along to it and park a real car to it.

Yeah, welding galvanized is nasty. You can't use a fan if you're mig welding, and that emt stuff is too thin for a stick. I used to wear a really good mask to do it.

Yes you can use a fan with mig. All you need to fan to do is blow the zinc fumes away to avoid breathing them. It does not have to be a huge wind, just a gentle breeze.

OK, but my shop fan was the blower from a central air unit. Small hurricane. Needed that in Tampa summers.

$37 everything found at Home Depot.

And I have just added the CB to the rig. I will condense the two threads I have going into just one.
