I've been getting annoyed with my Harbor Freight Bead Roller....it doesn't have any way to prevent the driven roller from moving to the left during use. That causes the bead that I'm making to start out very crisp and sharped, but to gradually turn into a slope. (Very annoying.) Luckily, a fix is cheap, and easily reversible; I just put a hose clamp on the shaft for the driven roller next to the support for the shaft. Presto, no more movement to the left.

The actual amount of movement that occurs is a lot less than in the picture (I exaggerated it to make the change more obvious.) The red line with the dogleg represents the bead I'm rolling, and how it looks at the start and the finish of the workpiece. The hose clamp should be self explanatory.

I know this solution is not rocket science, but I thought I'd share it, just in case anybody else is having this problem, too.

A split shaft collar from your local fastener store would be a permanent and cheap solution.

Been thinking about picking that bead roller up myself. I have seen plenty that have been beefed up with 2X2 square tube welded to them. Do you feel they deflect that much in normal use to need frame reinforcement?

    Definitely needs reinforcement.

Here's what I did to mine:

Nice. I should probably do the same. The other mod I have thought about is replacing the crank handle with a wheel...I think it would be easier to control.

I want a motor from a chain drive garage door opener so I can electrify mine. A foot switch from Grainger and away you go. I currently have a big wheel from the rear of a lawn mower on mine. I still want to reinforce it but it works for light weight steel and aluminium.
