Even though I'm not Canadian. I'm a true blue American mongrol mutt. I think most Americans are. I have ancestors that are Irish, English, Dutch, German and Shoshone and that is just what is trackable. My 2 daughters can add Asian to their heritage.

I have two Kenyan-born cousins. They're as white as you can be when you're from Africa, but it can be rather amusing to state they're African-American.
There is one thing I've been finding a bit confusing the term Indian - now that there's a substantial number of Indian Indians in the US, it's a little ambiguous whether stating someone is Indian means they are from India or related to the people who were here before Columbus.

I have used that a few times while being surveyed at the mall. I usually give African american, and a name like Joost van der Ploosen. if they ask more questions like about my NY accent I have a whole story about being snuck out in the early 80s as a kid when the E36 M3 started hitting the fan in our little diamond mining community
I have a friend too that is from South Afriica. As pale as Queen Elizabeth, but always says he is African American. Actually, he is African, as he still does not have his citizenship here.

Funny thing is, they aren't from France, they don't speak proper french and the french don't even like them.
They're Canada's version of Cajuns but without the good food. Except for sugar pie and poutine.
