Well I was just sent pics of a new/next possible project car. A 1973 Duster that has been stripped to a bare roller. There is zero rust and all of the chassis is there. It is going to need a full interior plus engine trans and glass. Figured it would be a good start for a racer or custom if I got it for the right price. It certainly would be a long term project and require a ton of work. The guy is asking $400 obo. I know if I looked hard enough I might find a complete six cyl car for that though the body I doubt would be as clean as this rig. Thinking of asking $200 would that be to low?

EDIT looks like it comes with all glass, has been mini tubbed, its an original floor shift car, has all lights grill etc, comes with both an auto and manual trans, headers for a 360 and a bunch of other stuff. Me thinks this could make for an interesting challenge car. Toss in an aluminum dash, a new engine and start rebuilding...

Might as well ask $200 and see what you can work out. For a straight, rust free shell, you may need to go higher; depends on how motivated he is to sell it.

So presuming I can strike a deal for this rig what do you guys think I should do as far as drive for it? 360? 383? 440? hemi? The chevy 355 sitting in my shop (kiddding).

I also need to figure out hauling it home and hiding it from my fiance

Turbo slant six and you'll be my hero. $400 is fair for a rust-free roller. If it was mine, I'd hold out for at least that much, and tell you to get bent with a $200 offer. It's worth that much in scrap.

I did think about the Cummins Turbo.

I had not thought of a Turbo slant 6 how doable would that be?

and a very scary thing just happened I sat Tiff down and showed her the pics and told her how much he wanted and asked if she would like to do that as our next project car. She said YES!

I might see if the guy will haul it over here for the full $400 just so I don't have the expense of a trailer and gas to go haul it.

I think $400 is a damn good price for a straight non rusty shell.

Do it. Id say $300 since the ad is OBO. Chopping the price in half seems a little extreme, but it never hurts to ask.

Yeah I might try for the $300 the more I look at the pics the more I am seeing is there and see that $200 would be way low.

In this part of the rust belt, if the car is truly rust free and straight, and depending on what parts came in the deal, it would be between $1200-2000. Anything below $1000 is a steal.

A 360 Magnum motor out of a truck is the best bang for the buck. Swap intake, distributor and oil pan/pickup and it's a 300 horse motor that drops in.

FYI, good quality fiberglass fenders, hoods, bumpers, and trunk lids are available.

    Only a 340 will do.

I would offer $300 and work from there.

Engine wise I would get an A block(318/340/360), or maybe a Magnum(better head design, roller rocker). Or a new hemi If you can get a good deal.

$400 for a clean, straight Duster. That's a fairly rare car. I wouldn't even attempt to talk him down, especially if the suspension is in good shape. I think I've seen maybe 1 or 2 Dusters in the past several years.

Really? there are like a half dozen of them around this town.

I sent the guy an email and have not heard back. Hopefully he gets back to me soon before I decide to buy the posi for my Olds

+1. If I had the room, I'd be all over that like stink on poo. Show up with a truck and trailer, offer $300 but make sure you have the additional $100 in your other pocket.
