The Genesis Coupe is based on the same platform as the big Sedan, but they're going to be quite different. Hyundai puts it: "Genesis Coupe uses the same flexible rear-wheel drive architecture originally developed for the Genesis sport sedan. "

But it's several hundred pounds lighter and more than a foot shorter than the sedan. We're watching this one closely, believe me.

Terms like "flexible...architecture" are not very well thought out, haha.

R-spec FTW. Too bad the wheels have to be so huge

When you consider the fact that it was probably necessary to make the Brembos fit, I don't have such a problem with it. I will definitely be trying to find one of these to test drive when they start showing up. The R-spec sounds like exactly what the WRX TR should have been but wasn't.

Subaru and Mitsubishi can stuff 13" brembos behind 17" wheels. IMHO, anything over 17" is fashion. It won't make the car suck, but I'd prefer a lighter, smaller wheel that could use cheaper, smaller tires. Just my .02

These are closer to 14" brembos aren't they? Or did I misread the spec sheet?

2.0T manual in white. Thank you very much.

You go ahead and pay $8k more and not be able to take more than your wife with you. . .I'll take the GC with seating for 4 and enough money in my pocket for some better rubber and track time.

The Genesis rotors are almost an inch larger than the EVO and STI at both ends. I assume the Genesis will also have a more typical RWD offset, unlike the FWD offset of the STI and EVO, which may also help make a larger wheel necessary. In any case, I wouldn't be so hasty to call the 19s purely fashion.

Meh. I'll wait for the Exodus or Leviticus coupe.

They're 340mm, which is about 13.3". Very close to the size used in the Evo and WRX STI. Specs for Genesis Coupe brakes

I'll continue to consider huge wheels (and giant brakes, for that matter.) a fashion over function decision, but I invite you to have your own opinion.

so with caliper you're looking at close to 15" needed inside the rim for clearance? Maye a littlemore/less. That still requires a large rim. IIRC, the Brembo 340mm brake kit for the GM trucks requires a minimum of an 18" rim top clear. So a 19 is not much bigger in the grand scheme.

The day will come when Honda nerds will gripe about the lack of tires for their original 15x6-inch rims, just like current Mini nerds long for the days of 10-inch tire options. Anything less than a 22 will be considered quaint.

people are already griping about not being able to find a rally tire in anything bigger than a 15"...some import 16's from england.

I personally am excited for this car to come out. The R-Spec trim is great, all the performance stuff with none of the extra weight/cost of the luxury items.

If I was in the market for a new car, it would be at the top of the list. I have owned two hyundais and both performed flawlessly in the hundreds of thousands of miles I put on the two cars (167,000 on one, 135,000 on another)

That Solstice Coupe is one sexy car.. I'll just wait a few years or so when they drop like a rock price wise.. I'll take one in red with a base engine and crank windows please.
