Went to the rod run yesterday. This was prolly my favorite ride there, as well as the caddy. I have a ton more pics but no space left on my file host lol.

I have always been partial to rat rods, especially ones that are only a few inches taller than the tires, so the first one rocks my socks.

I just wish "fabricators" would shop hacking up vintage tin just so they can be part of a trend.

purely hydraulic steering is illegal in nearly every state. Wait till a savy trooper sees that car...

For those that are in exceptional or original condition, I agree.

I wonder how effective those front shocks are.

Mounted at 45 degrees on the short end of the lever arm, must work great!

At least it's not flat black with red wheels and spiderwebs everywhere.

For the most part I don't care for them...they started out as sort of an homage to traditional rods, but then they took a hard left somewhere.

That rat looks like new construction to me, I would have loved to see it in person. I like the caddy too, but not as much as SKRaP MeTaL.

I think that car is pushing the road legality in most every state in a lot of ways.

But drive by wire is OK.

I'm going to get clobbered here, but ratrods just don't do anything for me at all. (ducks rocks bottles cans and bullets) I do like the home brew TC 3800 in this one, though.

the first few I saw I liked... the one Stacy David built on gearz I liked... but since then.... especially that on this one.... I'm with Jensenman

To each his own. I can't stand Miata's, so I constantly have to avoid the rocks, bottles, and bullets on this site. Needless to say I didn't read all that much of this past months issue due to the massive amounts of Miata content, but I do give it credit for what it has done in this sport. Just not my cup of tea.

However, I'm not a huge fan of all rat rods but with ones like this I drool over. It's not black, it's not rusted, and it doesn't have a v8....

I'm neutral on the rat rod love/hate issue, but I think the ones that I like are more along the lines of "traditional hot rod" with honest patina and without scary fabrication done only for the sake of scariness, weather they started with vintage or late model equipment is irrelevant.

As for the hydraulic steering, as a person who repairs industrial vehicles that mostly use hydraulic only steering systems, I would never take that out on the road.

Are there any drive by wire systems (steering) in use on US market cars or trucks? Automatic parking doesn't count because there is still a mechanical steering column.

I can understand how rods don't do it for you guys... most of us here are about bang-for-buck performance mods.

But I am all about this stuff. It is absolute art. Gorgeous stuff, man... thanks for posting.

Not all cut up good bodies for these rods. I know a guy here local that pulled a 30's Chevy out of the rock quarry that had somewhere over 100 bullet holes in it. was a 4 door sedan and he cut it down to a 2 door coupe and filled in most of the remaining bullet holes. There are however still about 5 or 6 bullet holes in the various body panels.

I appreciate Street Rods, rather not own one, happy for the owners.

I Love Hot Rods - today and traditional - nothing more fun to race or drive.

I appreciate Rockabilly Rods when they don't use good original steel. However, I am quick to defend the builders and recognize that many of the pieces are being incorporated that would not be used in any other builds. Rockabilly Rods(z) - the hard left you mentioned - I love the creativity and croud - just don't need to own one. We go to the Jalopy Show Down every year and I don't go racing that weekend because the Show Down is one of those great car culture events. Ironically, the boy wants to make one out of a pile of parts sitting at the house. He keeps eyeing up the flathead 6, 1952 Chevy frame, the 29 Ford radiator, and tells me "This would be soooo coooool....!" I've been known to be flexible on these issues
