I was sitting here thinking this morning about how much money I had into the Cutlass and discovered with the new 403 I might actually be able to complete the car for challenge money. Right now I'm sitting at about $1100 total investment for:

    • 2 cars neither running. One was a freeby (to anyone) the other I bought for $250 (one with a olds 350 the other with a poncho 301 both with th350 trans, both have hydroboost brakes, quick ratio steering boxes, one has an aluminum hood, one had a complete set of racing springs in the trunk, one had an F body steering column for shift on the floor)
    • a complete running 403
    • Hurst shifter
    • various chassis bracing bars
    • 12 bolt rear from a GTO
    • Bucket seats from a newer car that are lighter than the original split bench
    • new steering wheel

If I am careful I might be able to build a car and keep it under budget. Then I just need to convince Tiff we need to take a trip to Florida.

Do it!!! The Challenge has a severe lack of cool old Oldsmobiles!

    Build thread! Build thread!

    In reply to Javelin:

I will start a proper build thread once I get my shop cleared and both cars are over here so I can start working on them this summer.

Yeah, do it. I did the $2004 challenge. It was a blast! I was the top-finishing black Omni GLH with that specific VIN that year!!
    WOOO-HOOO!!!!

Man someday I need to get a GLH I still remember riding in my dad's when I was little. He bought the thing brand new and man was it a blast! One of my favorite cars the family had as I was growing up.

If I can get the Olds done under budget and can manage to get the money saved up to drive down I will make the trip. I have a friend down in Florida I could recruit to help wrench on the car while down there even.
