Actor Corey Haim died early Wednesday morning from an apparent accidental drug overdose, according to the LAPD. Haim, 38, was taken from his mother's North Hollywood home by ambulance to Burbank's Providence St. Joseph Medical Center, where he died at about 3:40 a.m. PT, according to police Sgt. Frank Albarran.

Haim struggled with cocaine and valium addiction and was reportedly admitted to rehab more than 15 times.

The Canadian-born heartthrob burst onto the scene in the 1980s and starred in movies such as "License to Drive" and "The Lost Boys." Related The 'Coreys,' '80s Teen Kings, Return Growing Pains: The Trials and Tribulations of 1980s TV Child Stars WATCH: 'Growing Pains' Actor Missing

Haim was often paired with actor Corey Feldman, even as recently as three years ago when the two starred in a reality-TV show.

The two were known as "the two Coreys" before seeing it all evaporate after public struggles with drugs, alcohol and the law.

Corey Haim, for example, went from the loveable little brother in "Lost Boys" to a crack and Valium addict who made reported trips to rehab and then bloated up to more than 300 pounds.

In a 2007 interview with "Nightline," Haim spoke about battling his drug addiction.

"I feel like with myself I ruined myself to the point where I wasn't functional enough to work for anybody, even myself. I wasn't working," Haim said. "You know, if I'm not working, how anybody else can expect me to work for them if I'm not working. I mean physically working. My brain wasn't working."

Haim told "Nightline" that he empathized with Lindsay Lohan, who had been arrested for alleged cocaine possession and driving under the influence, and reportedly went back to rehab for a third time.

After a search of IMDB, I realise the only work of his I have seen had been part of Lost Boys.

The other Cory I am much more firmiliar with.

    None the less RIP

I thought the same thing. I've always respected Hess's insight on such subjects, but I think if he'd separate the political and/or homophobic rants from useful knowledge, the message will be much more well received.

Agreed on Hess's comments. The medical information was excelent. The political sections of it not so much, but I learned things..

So what you're saying is, it's cool to take an Adi-BAM!, wash it down with a couple stiff drinks, follow the link, move the cursor around in a circular motion, and watch the little car for hours and hours and hours and hours, just don't do it every day?

Corey, I certainly have nothing against funny boys. "Many of my best friends are" whatever. I just don't think they deserve "special" treatment from society anymore than you do. If you call that a homophobic rant, sorry, but you have issues to work out.

And my "Dr.Hess on Mental Health" section doesn't have any political ramblings in it at all. Unless you think "Microsoft Moment" is a political statement on the Bill and What'sherface Gates Foundation. Or do you think pumping children full of drugs so they can receive their political indoctrination is not an accurate observation? Maybe you're just too close to the trees to see the forest.

My words but a whisper -- your deafness a SHOUT. I may make you feel but I can't make you think. Your sperm's in the gutter -- your love's in the sink. Or something.

Alright, maybe they're not homophobic and/or political ramblings, but it kinda seems like you sidetrack and flounder yourself when you interject things like:

    Dr. Hess said:

Go ahead and continue to butt bang your buddy and spread it around, it’s your constitutional right.

    and
    Dr. Hess said:

He wants to go outside and play or do anything except learn how the Democrats have saved America by allowing the butt banging of buddies as a protected Federal Constitutional right, and how the Second Amendment only applies to the State’s right to have a National Guard (created in the early 20th century) despite clearly saying “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

I'm just saying that those two statements have absolutely nothing to do with your point, and serve no purpose. Other than that, I agree 100%. Actually, not long ago I was going to message you for your opinion on a medication that my girlfriend was prescribed (that I didn't think she needed in the first place) that was giving her messed up side effects, especially when she was weening off of it. Of course the doctors had never heard of such side effects, but google it and it seemed rather widespread. Are they really that clueless about the crap they're peddling?

Corey. I suspect that cluelessness probably grows out of overwork and oversaturation with information. The pharma industry has so many compounds out there for so many specific conditions and many marketing dollars behind them, I couldn't keep it all straight. Especially when you are trying to wade through what is real data and what is marketing hype dressed in a scientific wrapper. I am really glad we have Hess as a resource. I hope your girlfriend is doing better.

Hess. I realize why you tend to push my buttons. Outside of your opinion that Democrats and some other fuzzy collection of "Left Wing" are involuntarily butt-banging you every day, we think very much alike. I suspect we have common ground on more topics that either of us realize. I meant what I said above that I appreciate you being a resource to our little community.

ya Dr.'s are generally clueless (see Type Q's post above) that's why whenever I need info (and can't find / understand the googled info) I ask my pharmacist .. she hasn't let me down yet

as for "Actor Corey Haim died early Wednesday morning from an apparent accidental drug overdose" if you die from a drug overdose (of illegal drugs) then how can it be a "accidental" death... this from a former drug abuser (me)... it's something he / I / we chose to do... hard for that to be accidental...

  • 16vCorey

    March 12, 2010 4:32 p.m. 16vCorey UltraDork

I think it's the death part that's accidental. It's just too much work to say "he intentionally overdosed for the purpose of getting berkeleyed up, but accidentally overdosed to the levels that his organs quit working".
