Snapping shrimp are loud. Depending on where you go in the ocean they may be the loudest things out there.

A friend of mine bought some live rock that had a few mantis shrimp in it. (He discovered this when his damsels began disappearing.) The problem was solved by temporarily moving the live rock to a tank with a large trigger fish.

that'll do it. friend of a friend had almost the exact same thing happen but he had a bunch of more expensive/hard to get (like illegally imported from new zealand) fish in it.
