June 19, my 19yo nephew got out a car in Katahdin, Maine and started walking south. On November 19, he climbed back in that car 2180 miles from his starting point. Total elevation change was 515000'. He hike the entire Appalachian Trail. I got to spend some time with him this weekend talking about his journey. Amazing to say the least considering he hiked through Hurricane Irene and TS Lee with all the rain they brought to the north east.

I'm proud of him and just wanted to share.

    In reply to JoeyM:

Must be a trail affliction. Austin is considering the same thing. That or the Continental Divide Trail.

Doing the AT north to south is the hardcore way to do it, too. Most people walk it south to north so they get an earlier start in the spring. I've walked a few miles of it through PA and to do the whole thing would be an accomplishment. Congrats to him!

So awesome. Ive read a book or two about hiking the entire AT. I really wish the thought had crossed my mind to actually do it when I was young, and most importantly had the time.
