So I'm taking the little lady to Disney World in August, and she's promised me that we can fit some motor sports action into our trip. I've consulted the GRM 2011 calender, and have been searching, but I can't find/think of anything around that time that's happening. I'd like to try and fit in some carting too. My girl will be a beginner, but I don't want that to limit my fun any suggestions?

Well, GRM Worldwide HQ is about an hour to an hour and a half away (depending on where you are staying in Orlando, and the traffic on I-4). If nothing else, you can certainly stop in and say hello. Nice cars in the lobby, and nice people in the offices. Calling ahead never hurts.

As to karting, I don't know in that part of the world, but the Ocala Gran Prix track shows as being 1 hour and 39 minutes away (per Google Maps). They are (or were) a GRM advertiser.

Disney has (or at least had) a Nascar track where you can do the Richard Petty experience.

It's also worth checking orlandokartcenter.com and cfracingcomplex.com; they're the same place but run under two different banners.

Orlando Speed World has some good drag racing about 3x a year. There's also that new place in downtown on an old indutrial lot that does "crooked drags" (essentially ProSolo). GRM had an article on them and Transmarobird has been there.

Orlando Kart Center is a very technical track, but it's very bumpy. Like rattle the fillings out of your head.
The big right hand sweeper to a quick S onto the straight is pretty cool. They have a huge rental business, but don't expect to rent a shifter kart.

On the same property is a drag strip and, when we were there, they had a drift event going on too.

Man, there used to be a killer oval track down there where they greased up one of the corners with lard on hot days. AH-HA! Got it. The Lil' 500:

No longer true. They still hold an autocross once a month and have a regular drift program, but crooked drags are a memory.

(The facility in question is Central Florida Racing Complex; they're the link I posted up there ^^^ somewhere.)
