    Hi Guys,

I'm gong to be in the UK in a couple of weeks for a conference. I'll be in London for a Friday/Sat, then up to Warrington for the week, and then have the next weekend open. I'm wondering what car stuff I could do? Museums? Club rally to watch? Great roads to drive? I will have a car.

I'm also trying to catch a Premier league game while I'm there. Don't really care who I see. OK, don't really want to see Man U, but can always root against them .

    Thanks

If you're driving up the M40 via Oxford to Warrington, you're driving past this place: http://www.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk/

So full of Lucas it makes you wonder how the overhead lighting still works .

Great roads to drive are in short supply in England, you'd have to go to Scotland or Wales for that. That said, I'd stay out of North Wales if you even consider going anywhere near the speed limit - they seem to spend more time trying to catch motorists of all types than burglars.

If you have the time to make a fairly big detour, Snake (Pass) Road from Manchester via Glossop to Sheffield is worth the drive, but it tends to be full of bikers, speed limits and The Fuzz waving Hendon Hair Dryers[1].

[1] Radar guns (Hendon being where the London police academy is/was located)

Oulton Park is a historic race track a bit east of Manchester. Here's a schedule:

There is seems to be so much cool stuff to do in the UK that's car related, I don't think you'll have too much issue finding something. Narrowing it down might be a problem, though!

I'm probably going over there in a couple of weeks too... I have to pick up a front bumper for my Lotus just north of London and after that I was thinking of making a little holiday out of it. I want to drive up to John O'Groats, through the highlands, and then over to the Isle of Man, then back south via either Wales or Ireland. Will take a little more than a weekend though.

I went a couple years ago when there was a big Lotus meetup at the track grounds. I can second the recommendation. Very cool collection.

Donington was awesome. I could not believe the number of cars. My favorite was the Candy Toleman Hart.

I also ran over to Silverstone to catch an F2 race. Also saw the MINI cup (do we have that in NA?), a Lotus challenge race, and a GT practice session. It was great to walk around the pit area.

Oh, and I also saw Tottenham Hotspur beat Stoke City at White Heart Lane the previous weekend. That was fantastic!

Overall the trip was great. The work part was ok too.

My parents married in 1984 and never had a honeymoon. In 1989, when my mom was about 5 months pregnant with yours truly, they went on a "honeymoon" to Britain. He dragged her around industrial parks of England looking for parts for his Austin Healey

    I never had a chance
