A couple friends of mine in high school lived next to a train yard, and the tracks just so happened to go right past our high school(less than a mile away). They would hop a train almost every morning to get to school. One morning the jumped on one that must have been much smaller or lighter than usual, and by the time it got to the school it was probably going 25mph. They jumped off and came to school all dirty, skinned up, and bleeding. I don't think they jumped any more trains after that.

In my opinion, they're not really deterring anything, they're just making it more of a challenge, like Ninja Warrior. Who doesn't like Ninja Warrior?

Wow. That's a lot of people on the roof. Assuming the trains are full, maybe they need to run a few more trains?

If you will note, they only plan on putting them at the entrances and exits of stations, thus the train will be going rather slow at the time.
So, they can probably just push them out of the way. But of course, there is always the "push the branch out of the way" effect... it's the second guy that takes the hit.
