1996 Subaru Legacy Outback Wagon - $750 (Ithaca)

This car has served us well. It runs fine, though we don't take it on extended trips. It's been great for us, and we now use it as a local and winter car. We have to keep an eye on the oil and antifreeze levels. It has 125K on it. Here's the deal. Our trusted mechanic told us that it is going to need a new headgasket. We can't really sell it without telling you that. And we haven't replaced it. It runs well. Quiet, good compression. No nasty white smoke spewing out the back. How long will it go before it tells you it REALLY needs a new headgasket? Who knows? With a new headgasket, this car would have a new life, and could give you another 70k. We just have too many cars right now, and ol' Scooby-ru is low dog on the totem pole.
