I love my netbook. I bought it to supplant my giant beast Asus- and for general duty, it works great, plus then I don't have to alt-tab windows when I'm gaming.... because i'm ADD like that.

On the subject of laundry - I managed to survive 12 years of bachelor life doing my own laundry without damaging any clothing in the process.
In the first week of co-habitation with the future Mrs. BDT, I was advised that I was doing it all WRONG, and that I should never set foot in the laundry room again.
22 years later, I still haven't (except to sneak some shop rags in the machine while she's not home).
So when it came time to buy new machines, I said whatever any semi-intelligent life form would, under the circumstances: "get whatever you want, dear".
I don't mess with success.

Around here there weren't any lines at the stores on Black Friday. I haven't heard any amazing figures so I'm presuming sales weren't great nor were they awful. Either scenario would have had the news people buzzing.

I must be sincerely confused about netbooks. Any that I have seen/used have been slow pieces of junk that you cannot even stream a youtube video on (let alone have more than one tab in your browser open at a time). And last 8 hours? I wish.

you are using the wrong ones. I have one that I bought about 2.5 years ago. It is still kicking (though it's on it's second battery). Granted, battery life isn't great, but I can simultaneously run Pandora, 10 websites, download songs from I-tunes, and keep timing and scoring open for various race series (or live scores from ESPN.
Never had a problem with it being too slow.

Can you guys post model numbers/brands?
I am a bit of a computer geek, but have basically let my knowledge of netbooks slide after the abysmal performance of my parents. I mean, it works well if you need to check your e-mail or the news, but is otherwise not very good at all. I even went so far as to do all my registry tweaks on it (it has XP) and still no dice :(

I am using an Acer Aspire 1 netbook
Last years model 1GB, 160GB, Win XP
The 3 cell battery delivers 2-4 hrs but it is also the smallest battery offered. Their 6 cell battery doubles that time. There are even 9 cell batteries available for triple time..My personal netbook is more powerful than the corporate laptop I have from work which is a Dell Latitude 620
It may be 1GB (likely 512) 60GB and XP -

Ditch XP, install Ubuntu or Windows 7 Starter. Sorry, but in this case XP isn't the answer.

I bought a Dell monitor - 23" for $125 (originally something like $260) - after I asked them to cancel the order, they pitched in $25 to keep it - fine for me. I'll use it (since it has HDMI) for my TV setup with the Roku.

Our netbook is one of the Asus EeeeeEEEEEeeEEEEE! models. Don't remember the specs, it's the larger screen and a 6-cell battery. I put another gig or two of RAM in it. It's not as powerful as my "normal" laptop, but it has different abilities. Plus it's got a really solid feel to the case. I wish all laptops felt that indestructible.

I would like to smack the person who thought it would be a good idea to encourage EVERYONE to get on the interweb on the SAME DAY. That is all.
