if I won $48mil, or hell even $24mil, I would buy Jack Carter's house in Eureka (if you don't get the reference, watch the show) and build a very quite sizable large garage/fab/paint shop on top of it, and a nice little race track beside that garage. and then have a few interesting little Japanese, British, Italian, French, and perhaps German cars imported to occupy some of the garage, and build a few race cars. oh, and it would have parking for a race car hauler, and the back straight of the race track would overlap the driveway, as to not have to practice sliding a car hauler trailer around to prevent off-roading it and destroying the track and the trailer at the same time. the back yard would be predominantly a medium sized rallyX course, backing up to a nice forest on a hill, complete with lots of mountain biking trails

Small house with a large garage on a couple of acres in Daytona near the track, another in Australia near Philip Island, finish off the one I have now in Ohio.

Finish the restoration of my fleet, add a Porsche 930, 69 Mach 1, and a couple others.

Do a serious effort at the Grand Am Continental Cup.

Buy the wife her dream truck. Buy the wife more jewelry.

Travel the F1 circuit for a season.

Drive on every track I can manage.

Put the kid through college, make sure our parents are secure

    Invest the rest.

Nice house out in the country, 750K would buy about all the house I could ever want/need.

Big assed shop with lifts, machine tools, etc say another $300K.

Toys to fill that shop, well I think half a mil would get me enough stuff to tinker with for dammit ever. I don't really care for exotics so most of the fleet would be reasonably priced but there would have to be a high end Ducati in there somewhere.

Of course ensure the kiddo's college etc but she would still work. She will need to understand the value of money!

At this point I've spent 1.5 to 2 mil, leaves a good bit to park in investments etc, that would leave a tidy annual income to travel the planet going to and entering all manner of motorsports activities. Such as:

Dakar Follow a full season of WRC in person Ride from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, do the Darien Gap Field a race effort; I'm thinking IT or similar There's lots more I can think of.

Of course, lots of unattached wimmenfolks. Who will never become matrimonially attached to me.

And that carbon fiber crapper, of course. No gold; too garish.

A very nice garage plus a Bentley 4 1/2 litre blower, MG R-Type, Lambo Murcielago, Bentley SuperSports, Morgan Aero 8. Invest what is left.

I agree. I wouldn't want a rolls royce or anything like that. I'd probobly have nothing that costs over 40k (and that would be for new cars, the used ones i wouldn't pay more than 10 or so, and only if i REALLY wanted it). I'd probobly do lots of work to each one, but i'd want to start with sad, neglected ones and revive them. No use getting a mint, all original RX7 and never messing with it. I'd want one that was blown up and left to the dogs. I'd give it a 4 rotor. And if/when I have kids, then I get an RX4 wagon, and a 4 rotor I'm assuming gas prices and maintenance on a custom rotary powered, box shaped wagon wouldn't matter to someone with millions . And imagine how good i'd get at building 4 rotor engines! There'd have to be a way I could mass produce them for sale at a reasonable cost... I could donate them to charity auctions at drift events... Give them away to rotard friends... Organize a spec 4-rotor powered miata series...

I like curmudgeon's answer best. I'd probably do something similar.

That being said, I would look at it this way: I have spent a few years thus far with a very focused goal on being "wealthy" one day. If I suddenly became "wealthy" my new objective would be to stay that way. It's a lot harder than you think. Just look at MC Hammer!

I wouldn't either, but if I hit it big like that, I can guarantee you that Grandpa mtn would be driving around in a Bentley.

I don't think that costs $48 mil. Besides, you ever drive two cars at a time? Not easy and you can't give 100% attention to either.
