I just got some seat time in of of these

(hotlinked and huge cuz that's what I do)
and it was FUN! First off, it's a blast to drive around in a cop car because NOBODY passes you. I was doin the speed limit and noticed I had a grouping behind me. I slowly coasted down to about 10 below before anybody passed me. Even then it was only 2 brave souls and they were looking at me the same way you'd look at mom as she saw you stealing cookies out of the cookie jar. What fun!
Secondly, that car has some bawls. Despite having a few hundred pounds of cop gear on and in it, it moved away rather smartly.
That lightbar, while being low-profile sure makes some wicked wind-noise. I can't immagine a 1970's cop car with the uprighter profile and huge light bar.

That's all folks, just wanted to say that.

Dangit you got me! I was driving it.
I've only been in the backseat once, and he let me go.

Are you asking if I poured veggie oil in it? Good lord, my job would be done soo fast if I did that. I was given quite a looong tirade about NOT turning the lights or sirens on when driving on public roads.
I did get some serious looks from a county sheriff though.

Another one on my bucket list- drive a real live cop car with the lights and sirens. I'm more than a little jealous.

I like the US flag decal. Y'all know they're built just outside Toronto, right? Real American cars, just like the Canadian Crown Vics and the Canadian Impala 9C1s and the Australian Caprices?

Seriously, though, whoever came up with the idea of a red flasher on the side of the front pushbar did some good thinking. The sooner people coming towards you across an intersection can see you, the better.

Did that at the age of 18.

You should see some of the cars around here. Completely unmarked, but once they hit the lights, its like the sun turned on. There are lots of improvements as of late. Ford Sync can turn on the lights and sirens for you.

Ford Synch can do lots of things until it fails.

Also, I will own an ex-cop car (I'm hoping for a Caprice) at some point in time.

I think he was also referencing The Blues Brothers.

It's because of that movie that while I would like to own a used cop car at some point, I would particularly like to get one just like theirs, despite the fact that outside of its association with that movie is absolutely miserable in every way compared to a P71...

Also, I dislike this trend towards new cop cars looking ever more aggressive. Part of that is just what's available, and I if the best car for the job looks that way, fine. But it does seem like my local cops have been generally ramping up the RoboCop look in a variety of ways, and I don't think it's going to help public/cop relations one bit.

The only ticket I ever got was from a motorcycle cop a couple of years ago. I never saw any part of his face except his mouth, as he was wearing a half-visor he didn't lift. RoboCop really is the only association I could make.

But I digress. Congrats on the cop-car cruise!

Uh wow yeah. It's been a long day. Now, if someone ELSE had made a Blues Brothers reference in this thread I would have gotten it

One of the local cities has an SRT8 as a chase car that was repo'd from a drug dealer. And it's supercharged. Supposedly, it's producing 800 horses, but I kind of doubt that number. The very proud officer that was bragging about it was somewhat embarrassed by my first question about it:

"So, how many transmissions have they put in it?"

    mumbled answer: "Three"

    in 18 months.

A friend had a '73 Furry cop car back in the late '70s. Dark brown. 440. Yes it was fast!

My brother, the TV station Cameraman, did a ride along one evening with a bunch on the coast here in MS. The officer was proud of his new Dodge. Brother reported the car certainly did move quick, and would get past 100 with ease.

I want one with the Push bar.

Pushbar and spotlight are required. Here, the spotlight usually stays, and most cars aren't equipped with pushbars.

One of the readers rides here is an ex California state highway car, circa 1970. Way cool.

It's no coincidence that I put a push bar on my truck. Not a brush guard, an actual center push bar.

I can tell you that Illinois cops do not appreciate it if you're pulled over on the interstate getting your picture taken in front of a sign that says Chicago 106 in the dark whilst wearing sunglasses.
