It seems to be a 90s era Polaris Sportsman 4x4. It is inoperable and partially disassembled. This is a relaxed rainy day project.

I know zilch about these, but it's simpler than a car, so I should be able to figure it out. Is there a quality ATV forum with a high signal-to noise ratio? Something like GRM for ATVs.

Good luck with your project.  A shop manual is your best friend.  Google ATV forums.  Lurk for a while, you'll get a feel real fast how good the forum is.  Amazon, E bay, Bike Bandit, for some of the cheaper prices, to name few.

Nice thing about bike projects, they don't take up a ton of room, and you don't need it "now" for transportation.

Thumper Talk has an ATV section but I only hang out on the two wheeled parta of the site.  There's noise to be sure but there's solid tech in there.

A shop manual didn't even occur to me. I feel kind of dumb.
