"What? Flux core wire and 350 amps on 1.5mm material doesn't work? And the resulting crap welds are costing us 800 grand a month? Well who cares about that? If I admit I was wrong to spec this wire, my reputation would suffer!"

    Idiots.

    speaking of idiots, linky repaired

A union run trust fund now owns 55% of Chrysler?

Just to comment on the original post- that's not a problem unique to Chrysler or any of the Big 3. It's a human nature problem- a person is so sure of themselves that they are not willing to admit problems, even in the face of data.

To even think that is not in other companies, even the one you work it, is very much being in denial.

The big issue for this instance was that this person was in a position of major power to assert his technical authority. It's a sad but true statement that people look out for themselves first and not worry about the company they work for.

As for the trust fund, that won't be finalized until a bankrupcy judge decides.

it just seems odd that if you read the story, the engineer had stood up for his decision on many many many meetings with suppliers.. why didn't his boss take into consideration that so many people were having the same issues with his welding rod choice?

His boss had to sign off on the original decision as well, meaning his ass was in a sling too. They used the old lawyer's adage: 'Deny! Deny! Deny!'

How can Ford remain union when the union owns a controlling share in their competition?

According to one of my old profs, the adage is "Deny the allegations and defy the allegators."
