I got it for Christmas, I haven't gotten online with it yet, but I will after awhile. I think it's a tad glitchy considering the amount of time it was delayed........

It took me forever to find the audio controls, so I could mute that extremely annoying music.!!!!

Now my most previlent complaints are that you can't change the wheels on standard cars!!! REALLY!!! you mean I have to live with the standard wheels on my Lotus elan! I used to love throwing a set of panasports on that in GT's gone by!!

Also if there is an exit the game button on the screen, I sure can't find it. I play with a wheel that was made for GT 4 on the PS2 and it doesn't have the ps button on it so to quit the game I have to turn on one of the regular controllers to exit!!!! This is BS!!!

At least they got some things right, the car now is visually lower when you lower it, and the sounds are a lot better! you can't upgrade the brakes though?????

Oh, and is there anyway to drive the Topgear track other then that stupid VW van race? When I heard they were adding the Topgear course, I thought cool now I can try to beat the Stig, but I haven't found a way to drive it yet. If anyone knows let me know.

I waited to get a PS3 until GT5 came out.

GT5 came out, i got a PS3. I played GT5 for a couple hours at a buddy's house.

I now own the following games:

Infamous
MotorStorm
Prototype
Borderlands
Fallout 3
Call Of Duty: Black Ops
Soul Calibur 4
Prince of Persia
Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit

And i'm having a blast. I'll likely not buy GT5.

I don't think I've even picked up GT5 in nearly two weeks................and I've been off work most of that time, playing other games, goofing off on the internet, watching movies, etc.

And this is coming from someone who loved the previous ones.

The biggest flaw with GT5, if you can call it that, is the sensation of speed at low speeds. I've heard a few people complain about the physics, I think that is just a false blame. The physics are pretty phenomenal, turn off all aids and go for a drive, pay attention to the details of driving...
- Lift-throttle oversteer
- Road camber effects on handling / balance of the car
- Threshold and trail braking (no ABS)
- Tire effects, particularly when driving a car with an open diff, sliding, and dropping a wheel off the track.
Turning off the driving aids completely transforms the experience, at least in my opinion. Also, if you aren't driving with a wheel, then there is no point in playing the game... controllers are for NFS.

I would say the complete opposite. If you are going to spend as much money as they car for a wheel these days its stupid to just use it for GT. It is not THAT good of a sim, and on top of that their force feedback is so amazingly lacking.

Seriously, go get the wingman drivers for the logitec wheels and try out something like live for speed, iRacing, rFactor (look for real feel plug in on this one), GTR.... Play computer sims for a while and GT5 will feel VERY gamey. If I am gonna go through the hassle of setting up the wheel and the physical effort of driving there is no way I am going to pull out GT5, that game is for relaxed play (very strenuous relaxed play).

Yes, your list is accurate... but hitting bullet points of the highlights and actually replicating is very very different.

If nothing else GT5 LOVES for you to over drive the E36 M3 out of every car. If you learned to race in GT5 you would scrub off so much speed every single corner.

Fun game though. AI is terrible.

I've been driving rFactor, GTR, GTR2 and GTL with all kinds of mods for years. I would agree that from a pure sim prospective that rFactor and GTR2 are ahead of where GT5 is... but that isn't to say that GT5 is lacking.

Maybe it is just me, but I have a better "feel" for the handling of a car in GT5... it feels like more my experience driving the real cars. Obviously I haven't been behind the wheel of all 1000 cars in GT5 but there are 2 that I've spent track time in which are in the game:
- 2004 Nissan 350z
- Ruf 3400s (I had a 3.2L Boxster S, which isn't exact, but fairly close)
I can say that the driving characteristics of both feel very similar to how each felt on open track and autocross driving in real life.

Then again GT5 maybe my beer to everyone else's iRacing wine.

I do which we could mod the AI in GT5, it is terrible... it is borderline inexcusable. And as long as we are making a wishlist, I would like a few more tracks and race weekend events.

+1 to this. I left my wheel at my appartment in MA when i came here to visit my parents, and using the controller is pretty sad in comparison. No sim/game can be as good without a wheel! GT5 is far more arcade-y with a controller for sure. I use a G25, which has no ps button (and oddly no horn button, and no wiper button that i've found) but that is a small price to pay for being able to use it for rfactor and live for speed.

I would also echo what was said before about 'feel' for the handling of a car in GT5. I, too, have only spend a decent amount of time driving 2 cars in real life that are in GT5, in my case an MKIII supra and an RX8, but they seem to match up pretty well. Granted, an RX8 R3 is different from the RX8 in the game, and a US 1988 Supra turbo is different from the one in the game, but the handling similarities in these real cars to the game cars are strikingly noticable.

And , yes, the AI is crazy bad. I don't think they updated the AI from the original GT. There are more pit maneuvers now, but thats about it.

I can tell you that the C4 ZR1 handles exactly like my 88 Z51. Lift throttle oversteer, check. Throttle on oversteer, check. Oversteer because an ant farted, check.

Yep, just like how I drive it in real life.

Anybody know if you can drive the Topgear track, like I asked before?

This game is far and away better with a wheel, and a proper mounting for it. you can modulate the throttle with a pedal set, with a controller it is not possible.

We all know that the iracing etc is better in general, I for one prefer console games so can we stop having people post about how much better the iracing is for a sim.

For me honestly, GT2 is STILL the best of the series, the most variation of cars, and definatly the best soundtrack, I really wish they had of based GT5 on that one.

Top gear track has to be unlocked by beating that stupid challenge, IIRC (I still haven't done it... I really didn't buy a racing game to spend my time driving something worse then my mom's car)

You can absolutely modulate brake/throttle with a controller... Just have to learn some finess. I use R1 & R2 because they have the most pedal like feel and I can use both at the same time I f I want/need but isn't the stock set up with the right stick for gas/brake?

Switching the controller to R2/L2 helped immensely with throttle and brake modulation.

Top gear track is in world tracks in Arcade mode once you beat the damn combis

Yeah, the Microbus event took me about half an hour to beat. I spent half an hour trying to get through the first turn in the Elise, and never did, so I gave up there.

the key for the elise is to turn traction up at least halfway, turn on the stability or whatever its called, and its STILL like driving on eggshells, but doable. keep a little throttle on during braking and brake earlyish and light.

I feel that the unlocking is the game aspect, otherwise you're basically buying the "ending." Unlocks give you incentive to improve your skill in the single-player format. If you had the option of starting on the bridge before Bowser in level 8 of Super Mario Bros., it wouldn't be a very fulfilling game.

Been fiddling with GT5, I like it more than I thought I would. It's not a quantum leap in any direction, just an evolution of the GT franchise. The handling is better than any previous GT title, particularly with the ABS/Traction aids turned down to 1 or 0. It's not as realistic as iRacing, but it's also not as dead serious. The licensing tests are good and challenging, too (going for gold on all, got a little lazy on my Int. C and settled for a few silvers).

Haven't tried online yet, but looking forward to racing some friends back in Virginia once I get some practice in me.

Having to unlock things and move a bit sequentially prevents the idiots from buying a Skyline first off, slapping on the largest turbo and the stickiest tires, and then just seek-and-destroying their way through the bulk of the game.

Yes, technically it is their right to do so if they wish, but isn't it also the game creator's right to control the game experience as well? I think it is fine to have to work your way up a little.

Hmm, so that would be like the d-bags who show up at HPDEs in an uber-car, without the skill to actually drive it, eh? I see your point. Of course, if it was unlocked, then EVERYONE could have the same car and the playing field could be levelled again.

I'm not against having to earn money to upgrade or maintain the car -- I just don't like not being able to access them all at the beginning. Moot point for me, anyway -- I hate online racing games. I need peripheral vision, a proper wheel, and forces on my body to drive.

The biggest mistake I ever made in GT4 was getting one of the formula cars early on and using it for like 80 percent of the game. No real challenge, sucked all the fun out of it in retrospect. Trying not to do that with GT5.

I liked that aspect of Enthusia...it rewarded you for going fast in a slow car. In GT there is nothing to incentivize trying to win a race where you are outmatched by your opponents.

Thanks for the info on the Topgear track, now i have to beat the busses....

I'm hoping that you will be able to get new cars for the game via DLC, that would be fantastic!! Especially if you could order specific cars. I for one would like a M2 1028 94 Miata......but until then I got a 89 in white and basically made my own.....
