Yesterday at work I had to help get a customer off a bus because of a problem with the wheelchair lift. She was a young women maybe in her 20's on one of those old people scooters. While the driver and I were freeing the lift that was caught on a piece of jagged curb, she complained on her phone about being held hostage. She made the comment about how life was unfair because we could walk our fat useless asses around just fine while someone beautiful and young like her was stuck with her scooter. I was tempted to let her know that another 10 years on the scooter will probably give her a butt like mine but I kept my mouth shut until she left.

I am a firefighter. At least once each day, someone dials 911 for a "Lift Assist" . 90% of the time, these people have slipped off the toilet or out of bed and are simply too fat to lift themselves back up again. Often, they are embarrassed and appreciative but occasionally we get someone like this who is just a shiny happy person. Some people abuse the system and call 911 at the same time every night (i.e.: moments after Letterman ends) to be transferred from their wheelchair to their bed.
Sometimes, we have to call for a second firetruck because three firemen are not enough to lift one person. I have been called out to assist ambulance crews who need help transferring someone out of the ambulance and back into their home after another hospital visit.
Occasionally, these people are younger than I am.
I need to write a report for each incident. Most times, I do not need to ask the person's date of birth because I have already memorized it from previous reports.
They are almost always naked.

That's a shame, in another 20 years she will be a bitter person no one wants to deal with. I used to have to deal with people like that when I worked in retail 15 years ago. I'm glad I don't now. I don't think I could keep my mouth shut now. The older I get the less patients I have for people like that.

A meat-hook and a come-along will move folks just as fast as a 911 call. Plus, if you shop around enough, you can get a silencer for your handgun...
The hearse will be better equipped to deal with dead weight.

I don't envy you guys at all. We try to handle most of our problem passengers without calling 911 as it becomes a problem for everyone involved but you guys do get stuck with the worst of our "debris". (If that sounds harsh have one come out of his alcohol induced coma just long enough to open his fly and piss on you in February and see how human they still seem). And Like you said most of them are repeat visitors, I have had to pull "Fred" off more than one bus at the end of the night and steer him towards his building.
And Iggy, I'd bet you are right.

I've had extensive dental work done this weekend, and my tougue and cheek may be of whack, juxtapositionaly speaking.
I would rather go on record as saying I'm against murder in most forms, but if that were not he case, I would likely condone the selective elimination of certain mouth- breathng inbred hillbillys, living in my near vicinity.
All the same, you should take most of my posts with a large grain of sea salt, and a speck of jalopeno.

You are paying for most of their lifestyle. They leave the shelter in the morning, get on the bus without paying to head out to trade their EBT card for Booze, then when they can't be roused from their slumber someone calls an ambulance so they can sleep it off in the hospital.

One thing he said that really stuck was "Treat disabled people with respect, but don't fear telling them "No". My sister was a paramedic and 911 operator in San Fransisco for many years, your stories sound very familiar.
