How could someone do such a thing???

ATLANTA -- A one-year-old bulldog is fighting for his life after investigators said someone doused him with an accelerant, causing third-and fourth-degree burns burns to his face and mouth.

“They extend throughout the dog’s entire left side. At this juncture, we’re trying to see if we can save his left eye,” said a representative for the Atlanta Humane Society.

The dog was found Tuesday by a good Samaritan on McDaniel Street in Atlanta. The Samaritan immediately stopped her car to extinguish the dog using her own coat.

Investigators said “Chato” was let out to use the rest room and approximately 25 minutes later, the dog was seen about a block from his home on fire.

Chato was taken to the Atlanta Humane Society Clinic, where he remains under supervision by the medical staff.

“Chato’s medical bills will cost upwards of $6,500 and we are currently seeking assistance to help pay for his care,” the Humane Society said.

Atlanta Humane Society investigators said they have a few leads, but are actively pursuing information to seek justice for "Chato."

They are offering a $5,000 reward furnished by the Holland M. Ware Charitable Trust for a tip leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.

Keep your loved ones close, lest some shiny happy person come along and set one of 'em on fire.

You know, I'm not a dog person, but that is just sick. I would love to help design that special place in hell for people like that.

If I had a tip on who did this I know where the $5,000 would go..

That's just not right. But as an Aside why is a dog gets 3rd degree burns on a significant portion of his body it costs "upwards of $6500". If it was a person with 3rd degree burns on 10%+ of their body it would probably be no less than $65,000 and upwards of $650,000. I mean your still treating a living creature that can get infections, needs meds, skin grafts, etc..

    I'm just sayin..

Lighting dogs and cats on fire is an old Baltimore tradition. Done many times a year.

After an incident like that here, a kid set a cat named Buster on fire, they passed Buster's Law. No special place in hell, but a special jail cell where you get to play drop-the-soap with some biker named Turk.

The chain hanging off his collar leads me to believe the dog was left out in the yard. It looks like he broke the chain and took off.

Don't leave your dogs outside folks. They get in trouble and run into people with lighters and gasoline.

We had one of these a few years ago in Dallas. The guy actually did jail time, but in my opinion not enough of it. A local private shelter made T-shirts with the dog's image. In this case, the dog didn't survive.

As for Michael Vick, some more details about 'Bad Newz Kennels' is coming out. They were sticking electrical wires into a swimming pool then throwing the losing dogs into the water. There was more I don't even want to mention here.

The NFL can do what they want, but I will never pay money to see this guy play.

Vick has definatly earned his place in hell..

Personally, I have always felt that it is a short step from abusing an animal to abusing a person. All it takes is the insight to realise that people are essentially animals too... and then the rest is history.

Animal abuse is a felony in Utah, let's hope that is the case there as well.

OR we had a BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGG guy that honestly went by Bubba at the prison I worked at.

Honestly was a decent guy, they got him to berkley with me when I first started, quiet, liked his books, "volunteered" to stay in confinement as he didn't want anyone to screw with him.

That being said Autolex is right, if they find the A$$HAT that did this they need to hand him over to the dogs owner, and turn their back.

It's a felony in California, too, albeit one than needs to carry a much stiffer punishment.
