"A Utah man who was trying to kill a mouse ended up shooting one roommate and getting another arrested for child rape, while a fourth roommate slept through the whole thing."

"Police said they suspected alcohol was involved."

    Shocking.

"Police said they suspected alcohol was involved."

    Ya think?

I lived in an apartment building a long time ago, the girl who lived next door saw a wasp crawling on the ceiling. So she got out her .22 revolver and shot it. Happily, the apartment above hers was vacant. She squirted toothpaste in the shell hole, you couldn't even see it.

“I’d never seen the girl there before and I don’t know how long she’d been there,” he added. “They said she’d been hiding in a closet and that creeps me out. … I knew the guy was weird, but I didn’t expect anything like that to happen.”

    Thinking to oneself:
"My roommate is weird. I bet rapes girls and hides them in the closet."

The guy who shot his roommate in the chest was not arrested. I guess it's OK if it's accidental, and as a result of trying to kill a mouse.

    In reply to Zomby woof:

It's certainly not assault. Depends on local laws. Someone I know was shot by his brother. Complete accident. Yes, he aimed it at him. Yes, he pulled the trigger. Yes, he thought it was not loaded. Stupid, yes, but not illegal.

That's retarded. I'm a strong advocate of less laws, and less cops, but if you shoot somebody, it's no accident.

    see! NOT in FL!

    p.s. - mousetraps? $0.98 at Lowes....
p.p.s. - if you are dumb enough to shoot mice in your home, a shotgun with #8 birdshot is a lot less likely to penetrate the wall

Someone shooting a .22 on their property hit a person over a mile away at a public pool. I really don't feel they are at fault, so it really would be a delicate law to write. The above mentioned person was not charged either.

Certainly they should be, just like the guy who recently killed the Amish school girl.

Pointing a firearm into the air and discharging could hardly be called responsible. Fire it into a berm, etc.

    In reply to z31maniac:

Since the boys were firing at a home range, they were not charged. They were being responsible. The police didn't even give the girl who was hit the option to charge them. She was checked by an ambulance and found to have no major injuries.

Shooting a gun into the air is irresponsible, and the result would be different.

    In reply to N Sperlo:

I don't have to be driving irresponsibly to be liable for damage caused if I'm involved in an accident.

I'm not suggesting that criminal charges are appropriate, but I hope they (EDIT: or their parents, depending on the boys' ages) were held responsible for the cost of the ambulance, if such a bill were otherwise going to be handed to the victim.

I'm sure it would have been if necessary. That's a civil matter.
