Those tires were also a blessing when I woke up underneath one of those when I was 10, after asking it nicely to stay on the dirt road and having it go down the embankment instead. It took some doin', getting out from under it with a dislocated shoulder but them big, soft tires were surprisingly comfortable. Rode it back to camp, shoulder popped in the next day, can't say I miss those 3wheelers...

You can kinda see how it happened... Start with a motorcycle, add a wide rear axle "for stability," but there's so much more complexity to adding a whole front steering linkage arrangement even before we get to suspension. Even so, while I wanted one when I was a kid, they've always seemed utterly mental since the advent of the quad. Which also seems mental even though I had fun on one once. I think I'll stick to two wheels or a full car-type-thing...
