Confession: When that song was new, and it would air on the radio, I used to loudly say "Penis" when he'd say "jacket".

My minor confession is that I’m thrilled so many people know the lyrics to a cake song beside “the distance”.
In reply to chandler :
Pretty sure short skirt, long jacket is the song everyone knows if they don't know going the distance.
While we're talking about cake, I like their version of I will survive much much better than the original

Not gonna lie, that's hilarious.

The three songs that got air play are the distance, short skirt long jacket and never there.

I would almost say Cake’s cover of War Pigs is better than the original, too. Actually, it really is better, I just feel blasphemous saying it.
In reply to Duke :
I had no idea that existed. Until about 4 minutes ago my favorite version of War Pigs was the Faith No More version, but that's bumped down a notch now.
Whenever I read or hear the words “never before”, my brain immediately goes to “have I turned on you, you look too good to me...” and whatever I was doing gets put on hold as I brain-jam Free For All.
A group in my city is trying to force a landowner to preserve an old house that easily needs $200k worth of work to be useable. They are asking local residents to chime in with anything they know about the history of the house. I've done some research on the house and some of the previous owners, but I'll be keeping that information to myself because the group pissed me off by going off the deep end to paint the current owner as evil. I'm sure someone else around here has my same knack for digging through archives...or not.

I can only think of Going the Distance, and Short Skirt Long Jacket from memory.

I hadn't heard it before......I can't say I agree at all

Fair enough. Both versions are one of my favorite songs, if that makes sense. But I like the funk of the Cake cover.
I think Mark Knopfler's solo career is way better than anything he did when he was with Dire Straits.

I don't know that I'd go that far, but you can definitely make a strong case for it.

Musical taste is highly personal, I will say I'm glad to hear someone cover it differently but....they glossed over the whole Luke's Wall part which is by far my favorite.
There's a version of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath with Bruce dickenson singing that I like better than the original
Godspeed doing Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
I'll save you the searching since I'm listening to it now

I would probably make the Tracker album the cornerstone of my case. Get Lucky and Shangri-La are both excellent as welln
I think Old Town Road (Ft Billy Ray Cyrus) is one of the most brilliant songs in decades. Not because it's good. Admittedly catchy, but it's not great. The rapping is sub-par, Achy Breaky's verse is corny at best, and the tune is a 30$ beat Lil Nas X bought that features a Nine Inch Nails sample- it's because of what it is. That a gay, black, BARELY adult artist came out with a song that hold the record for most weeks at #1 on Billboard, Hit the country charts with such ferocity that they KICKED IT OFF (Which I suspect is the reason BRC got on it- He saw it and was like, alright country motherberkeleyers- I'm on this, now what) says something. I may be over it, but I am absolutely impressed. And other than a line about "lean" the song is totally clean.
In reply to Mndsm :
I agree, and frankly if Sam Hunt can be on the country charts I don't see why this can't be on it too.

I feel ashamed. I HAVE that album, I bought it when it came out. I listened to it a lot when I was in high school. Like, a lot a lot.
I think I have a version with the original version of Supernaut with Trent Reznor, instead of Al Jourgenson doing his best to sound like Trent Reznor. (I was kind of into Ministry, and NIN, and a few other things at the time, like early Black Sabbath, and technically early Metallica because it was all early Metallica at that point, and some band that released a weird little EP called Marilyn Manson, and...)
All scientific evidence to the contrary, I can't help but believe my Detroit Tigers only play decent baseball when I'm NOT watching. The same could be said of the Lions during football season. You'll never convince me otherwise . . .

It's actually a great album, supernaut is another of my favorites
