Yuck.
The DTS overheats at idle. Coolant fans work, system is full, system builds pressure, coolant seems clean and the block and crossover aren't gunned up. Tried a thermostat, no dice. Thought maybe the water pump impeller was broke but got it out and its fine. Maybe the radiator is plugged up. I know its not head gaskets, because Northstars with a BHG smoke like a freight train
I had a 4.7 Dakota that drove me nuts for quite some time. Not so much overheat at idle, although it would. 20 or 30 minutes on the highway, and it starts creeping up. Rad never got hot. Pulled and flushed rad, installed a new thermostat, inspected the impeller on the water pump, looked for collapsing hoses, blah, blah, blah.
Turns out, if the heater core is plugged enough that the coolant coming back cools completely, the thermostat won't open. The Germans involved in drawing the 4.7 thought it might be ever so keen to ramp temp up a bit in the winter, so the thermostat is heated by coolant returning from the heater core. Plug the heater core, no coolant circulation. No coolant circulation through the heater, no coolant through the rad.
Are those the same Germans that loved to make the center vents fresh air only (from before the heater core), so you get a blast of cold air in the cabin no matter what you do unless you take the dash apart and block them off?
I used to think only VW was that dumb but I found out Porsche did that too.
VW also took the heater core water from the block, not the head, on the Audi 5 cylinder engines. So the heat always was marginal even after you fixed the HVAC ducting with tape and a couple aerosol can caps.

Am I the only one who thinks school pictures are highly overrated and way overpriced??
Four kids, the youngest is 16. We have never bought school photos. For what they charge you can have a pro take the pictures.
It was my only chance to get in the year book. Didn't kiss enough year book staff ass to get in it otherwise.
Something popped in my chest.
Like go to the doctor popped.
this is the current state of my shop. And it will probably stay that way until after the challenge. Its driving me berkeleying nuts, but i dont have a full day to dedicate to pulling EVERYTHING out and getting it back to rights.
You cant see the other bay, where my desk for work is. Its just as bad, and the duster has become a shelf.

That looks positively organized and sane compared to my garage at the moment...
Edit: As proof:
(and I wasn't standing far enough back to capture the far right side of the garage which is even worse)
Whoever in prehistory thought standing upright was a good idea was a moron.
On one hand, it freed up the front-paws to use tools, which led to bigger brains, and stuff.
On the other hand, woefully underengineered spinal column.

There actually is a reason for that. To keep you awake. Warm air makes you sleepy, so you can direct cool air to the face to keep you awake. I personally have a hard time breathing when warm air hits me in the face, so I keep all the heat on the floor
Without fail, everytime I drag my feet a little getting ready for work, somebody will be in the bathroom exactly when I need to be.

I have a hard time with face air too, but when my hands are numb I want hot air for them, and Vw will happily blast -5F air at your right hand.

My E46 had that, plus it had a little manual temperature blender wheel that was independent of the main temperature setting. I miss that quite a bit. I definitely prefer warm feet and cool head.
I'm sick, wife is sick, kids are sick. Fun fun fun.

The spine was engineered for about 35-40 years of extreme use. Humans regularly exceed the expiration date.

Must have been postwar Ford engineers - I'm 41 and hadn't really had back problems before. Perfect timing.

Could be me. I'm sure I have a couple of broken ribs from trying to Matrix my dumb ass out of getting stung by hornets.
E36 M3 ass plastic connectors in a cooling system.

Hey! It looks like we use the same interior designer! How cool is that.

I see your garage, and raise you this.
Oversized two car garage that can fit a Beetle, or an S10 with a bit of cleanup.
I need to stop being a hoarder.

Here's a very carefully framed image of my garage, after getting the '81 RX-7 out of the hole where it had been sitting since December 2016:
The RX-7 to the left is covered with ten tires, eight of them mounted, on it, as well as a cooler too large to fit in any of my cars but too expensive to just throw away, and a lot of the tools and misc. stuff that had accumulated on the '81 in the intervening three years. And the VW in the back... it's full-on storage shelf at this point.
I've swept havily since then, and my goal is to get the VW dragged out of its cocoon of parts boxes so that I can get a a state VIN inspection done on it, before winter. My ULTIMATE goal is to be able to do this after the last rallycross of the year, so I can park the black RX-7 there, and put the VW in the black car's spot, so I can start actually wrenching on it over the winter.
You people would probably lock me up if you saw the current state of the shop of horrors.
I got it really clean and it lasted like a month.

I pay for a 10x10 storage locker, too. Without it, there's no way I'd fit a car in my garage.

I have two under the carport, 2 in the open, one at dads, one still in ohio. Crawlspace and shed full of E36 M3....
The wagon is half in half out because I wouldn't have space to walk or maneuver an engine hoist in front of it if it was all the way inside. As it is it's tucked all the way against the left side of the door and there is barely room on that side. The Datsun is a shelf. Meanwhile I'm trying not to scratch the nice paint on the GTA any worse than I already have. Trying to sell off some of the engine and trans stash to get floor space back. This building is easily big enough for like 5 cars if you are good at tetris and throw a lot of crap out. Oh and if one of the cars isn't a Caprice wagon.

I recently acquired one too. It's actually a good thing, as the storage locker is frightfully expensive per square foot, so when I offload things from the garage to the locker, I am asking myself "Is it really worth the money to be keeping this?"
