It's 46 and sunny out. So I play musical cars and take the S2000 for a drive.
...and get caught behind a salt sprayer truck on the highway.
There's an employee absenteeism problem at my wife's clinic--most of it is not a COVID related problem.
It's not going to change unless she's willing to fire folks for not showing up to work.
My conscience is a killjoy. First our dirt cars are spending the next month in Florida. I would love to go on my vacation week but then I'd have to quarantine on my return and can't leave my office short handed like that. Then I got a message on my long forgotten tinder account. My much younger cousin's friend will be down here for work for a little while and when I popped up she asked if I wanted to go out. I thought it would be nice and agreed. Then she sent a couple pics. She doesn't look at all like the kid I babysat but it still seems creepy.
Pissed off my wife, for making her ask herself important questions.
She wants to apply for a job. It is a full time job, at a place where she used to work part time, where the people loved her, and where she only stopped working because of a global pandemic and having a newborn baby. They probably would not even interview her, they'd probably do a tiny bit of negotiating and ask her when she could start.
I'm ok with that. I'd love that. Honestly, I really would - it would mean we could start doing some fun stuff again that we haven't been able to afford. But she would not be happy with that right now, and she hasn't thought it all the way through. I asked her about daycare, about the timing of when they would want her to start, about when she is receiving the 2nd Covid vaccine dose, about how long it takes for antibodies to get to our daughter via breastmilk... And those questions pissed her off. But I guarantee you, she did not think of them. And she also did not think about what the optics would be if she were to apply, get an offer, then turn it down after she had already left there. Do you get a 3rd chance? (Yes, she probably does, but the question still needs to be asked). This is the dream job and location for her, but it is not exactly rare. This position comes up full time at least once every 5 years, and part time at least every 2 years, and 60% of those currently in the role at this hospital are over 55 years old.

I'm really sorry. I get it. My wife and I have had a better marriage for the last six months than ever before, and I am really glad for that. Even now though, it seems "getting angry at husband for something he didn't have any part in" is a viable option more than it ought to be. "Getting mad at wife" is never an option. For anything. Ever. 'tis the way of things.
Spent some time driving a 500 Abarth today.
Rant. Why can't Honda make a car like this?
Rant. Toyota CAN make a car like this, but it is 1990 again and they aren't exporting the good stuff to North America.

Yeah, I read somewhere that the false negatives could run as high as 50% and false positives in the 15-20% range.
They told me 40%, and asked if I wanted the other one each time.
At any given time I have 10 employees out on quarantine or with actual virus. It's pretty crazy.
So three months after the original agreed-upon closing date for the home refi and three months of silence, the lender (same as the old lender) comes back to ask for a bunch of stuff we've already supplied them with, more than once and is still not able to give us a closing date.
The real fun one being, asking me to switch over the home insurance to the new loan while the old one is still active, without them being able to tell me when the closing is.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure the old loan also requires me to have home insurance.
And that's a credit union who's supposed to be good at this stuff.

This one turned out about as good as I could hope for. My wife, instead of applying, emailed the hiring manager (her old boss) and inquired but said she wasn't sure if it would work. And it sounds like this one is not a fit, because of the logistics of it, but she'll have more coming up in the next few months that will be.

I drove an Abarth 500 and it never really clicked with me. The engine was a dog out of boost and the car was a hot, floppy, sloppy mess that was completely non-communicative. I couldn't tell what it was doing or what it wanted me to do. It sounded absolutely terrific though. I'm still pissed about the Yaris GR. Toyota hyped the E36 M3 out of that thing here in the US and then gave us the middle finger at the last second. I totally would have sold the Miata to make room in the driveway for one of them.

Seeing a rant turn around is one of the reasons I come to this thread.
It sounds like she'd be able to keep her ears open for a more favorable opportunity there if your're both able to work out the other logistics.
Just received a job offer doing something entirely different and the prospect of getting my hands dirty again and working hard is very exciting to me.
But the people close to me think that I'm an absolute idiot for wanting to give up a lazy office job. The prospects of overtime, automotive fringe benefits, and just the possibility of filling my work day with SOMETHING doesn't make sense to them.
I guess the rant is that I need to find some new people.

Sounds like Toyota is measuring interest for something similar in the US
There is one fewer raccoon in Ohio.
And now I get to see how hard it is to find a titanium gray S60R bumper.
and the headlights SUUUUUUUUCK. I hate HIDs, the 36 year old sealed beams in my Mazda are far better. The HIDs have a very bright spot for a car length, which ruins your night vision for looking ahead. Which is where a driver SHOULD be looking. (Daniel Stern headlight rant to follow)

S2000, Civic Si, New Type-R? None of those get it done?

Those are all fairly large in comparison. A new Civic is almost exactly the same wheelbase, width, length, and height as my Volvo S60R. Which I consider to be enormous. The moose is heavier, but it also has a five cylinder engine with a big turbo and two intercoolers, a King Kong grade transmission, all wheel drive, and FAR better interior quality.
A 500 is smaller than a Fit. At least, it feels smaller.

My XC90 hids are interesting, and generally hateful. I get no spot near the car, and at dusk, I can't tell they are on. Full dark, and the actually spread the light really well, but nothing is ever brightly lit. There is a spare 9005 (I think) bulb in mine that is only for DRLs. I have considered finding a toggle switch and the relay trigger for them out of the CEM to turn them on as driving lights.
I drove a 91 Dakota for years, so I know what truly bad headlamps are.
"What's the least you'll take?" responses to CL/FB ads...
How 'bout you get your lazy ass over here and look it, and negotiate in person, with some cash in your hand?

My answer to that is always "Until you come see the car, the least I'll take is the price in the ad."
