Customer: My car makes a noise while driving.

Go out and get in the car and start it and the fuel gauge needle doesn't even come off the bottom stop. Berkeleying really?! How the devil am I supposed to drive your car to hear your noise if there isn't any berkeleying fuel in the thing?

Hard start when cold.  Just drove in from 20mi away, wants to wait with it.

They've been cutting down trees in the yard behind my backyard today, with very high winds.  The inevitable happened.  At least none of the workers were harmed and the tree service is insured, but I'm still going to need to repair a fence, and assemble a new shed...

Ouch. Hopefully said insurance is paying for the fence repairs & new shed.

We were extremely lucky over the last month or so with regard to trees- there have been several really bad windstorms that have seen about 1/5 of the houses in our neighborhood have a large tree damaged to the point of having to be removed, yet despite having a very large tree in both the front and back yard we escaped with only the ubiquitous small branches blown down.

They'd better be.  I already priced out the current model equivalent of our shed, and its $650.  The fence is probably under $50 in materials to repair, but I'll need to rent a van or pickup to get everything.  Just another thing to kill my spare time.  I've had multiple trees removed from my backyard in the past several years, in order to prevent them from becoming a danger.

Don't let them off at just materials cost.  If you're doing the work to repair damage they caused you deserved to be compensated for your time.  Rental costs, labor ($50 hr), and materials.  It sounds like they did a couple thousand dollars worth of damage.

(I've done tree work and while accidents happen they should be darned rare, no excuses for "wind")

Valid point.  I'll see what their insurance ends up offering, though, before I get too fired up.  Gusts today were supposed to be in the 40-50 MPH range.  Really shouldn't have been working in the first place, IMHO.

I have an Amazon Prime account. As such, whenever SWMBO needs to order something for her non-profit, she uses my account to do it (and uses Amazon Smile so said non-profit also gets a small amount of money back for it). I'm generally fine with this as it saves the organization money, which actually does us good since when there isn't enough money for everything the first thing that gets cut back is SWMBO's pay (she essentially volunteered her time more of the first year). However, it gets annoying around the time she puts on the yearly show because she uses my account to order all of the costumes/outfits for the show- so for a while whenever Amazon ads pop up on web pages they're for dance outfits like tights and leotards...

My manager loves this. Then we get to charge the customer around $6/gal if we need to test drive after the repair.

My wife avoids having an Amazon account, so the same thing happens to me every time she orders something.

Woman at work put out the word that she needs to hire a handyman to install maybe 1,000 sq ft of laminate flooring.  When I talk to her about it she says she spent all her money on the flooring and can't afford to pay anything to have it installed!!  Honey you're looking for charity then, not "hiring" someone.  berkeleying seriously!?

The manufacturing engineer on my project just got himself abruptly terminated for looking at porn on company computers. Now I have to bring a new guy up to speed on the entire new-product-development & implementation flow. This, right in the midst of the very stressful final-stages crunch-time can't-sleep freak-out phase.

Send her a YouTube link on installing laminate flooring and wish her luck?

I don't ever get sick.

I'm sick.

Small fever, it peaked at 100.8. I can deal with a stuffy nose and feeling icky for a while. I can even stay home from work without an issue. But I am super weak and super sore.  Just now I had to ask my nine year old to open the dishwasher for me because I literally couldn't, even with two hands.

My Mom had a virus years ago, and exited the virus with RA, vertigo and a host of other completely incurable and permanent things. If I am stuck like this I can't ever turn a wrench again, forget about racing or fabricating the truck. I won't be able to do home improvement or even basic maintenance things. Pray for me if it suits you.

Possibly TMI but I have to vent so sorry.

My wife has a condition. She wraps her fingers from the tips to the knuckles with bandaids. Every finger. Probably ten bandaids per finger. I've begged and pleaded with her to work on it but apparently she is not willing to overcome it. Years ago I finally convinced her to see a doctor about it. She was diagnosed with a rare type of disorder and that was good enough for her. She is content with it. She buys 3 100 count boxes of bandaids every other day. I get tired of finding bandaids in my bed or in the shower or in the kitchen sink. It's getting really old. Plus her car interior is a mess because of them. Every button she touched is black now, the steering wheel is coated in bandaid goo. It's just all bad.

But yesterday I had a cashier grab my hand to give me my change and I realized that was the first time I've felt a woman's touch in years. I miss it. She'll rub my shoulders it back but it feels like 80 grit sandpaper against my skin. I miss a woman's touch.

Dude, that's really tough.  Can she try wearing latex gloves, it'd have to be more pleasant for her than being a mass of band-aids all the time.  Habits start to feel like the only way to do things but there really has to be a better solution than that.

That sounds like a quick emergency center trip to me.  No reason to suffer just so you can wait to visit your regular optometrist, unless there are conditions we don't know about.

As long as there isn't anything IN your eye now that's fine.  But if you have a foreign body in your eye it needs to be removed now.

If your usual ophthalmologist isn't available there must be another one around short of visiting the ER.

tldr: eyes are not somewhere to berkeley around with

Why do people over 50 not understand the click-bait/post count dynamic of Facebook?  Every FB friend I have over a half century old is constantly posting this "Like and Share if You Love . . ." or "You won't believe what (celebrity X) said about panda bears" crap.  It clutters my feed and makes it harder to find stuff I actually want to see.

I'm about to be like this with the lot of them:

EDIT: And yes, I realize the irony of a hotlink in this post.

If it costs you three grand to have a guy look in your eye, find a thing, pluck it out with a Q tip and give you a prescription for eye drops, you need to do a political thing that everyone hates.

Not political.  Choice.  I chose the highest deductible plan for insurance to keep the family budget above water when my wife lost her job. Never changed it, and honestly this is the first time ive regretted it.

Visene and eyewash is working at the moment. So hopefully I'm good.
