God, I hate that expression. "Make Time". Yeah right! Not when you have things that have to get done before you have down time, which comes as a rarity to me these days.

On the other hand, I'm going to start using the rare down time I do get to focus on making things better in my life. I have made a new resume and have started applying to some jobs in hopes of landing something better.

Not exactly a good expression, true. But there is space for work- can you compromise how much work you do on you car 3 times a week, so you can get up? That's kind of what I mean.

I think one of the reasons I've not been back to the challenge is that I chose not to spend so many hours to work on the cars. I still do, but limit it to weekends. I can find time in my schedule that I can compromise, though.

Anyway, good luck on the job search!

Yeah, wish I'd done that. Over 50 = dead to many employers.

Uh oh, I am 48 years old.....with my youngest being an eight year old girl.

if they can't hire a fresh face for dirt cheap you are just about dead to them unless you are a mindless minion.

I'm 34 and can't get a job working for someone else unless I have someone there to pull strings and let the people there know that I am worth way more than what I would take for pay. and my youngest is 7.

I'm at the point where I have started webpages with referal links to try raising money to pay my rent.

I came to the realization the other day that when I told people that I don't sell cars for a living, that I sell parts, I had it backwards. My company pays nothing to me, it barely keeps itself afloat. I make my money flipping cars, without them I'd be living who knows where.

Have any of you ever considered trying to get work visas and coming north? I mean, oil and gas may not be the sexiest thing, but I'll be damned if there isn't an engineering/technical position available for each and every one of you.

How would one find out about these openings? I have a bit of a technical background, single, no ties, and unemployed in Ct, which is slowly dying. And I prefer cold weather to hot weather.
