Man I feel you. One was impacted and leaning into a molar so he had to yank and cut a bunch of times to clear it. Felt like he was trying to rip my jaw off. Had to apply a shot to the inner gums after he started because I could still feel everything. I had to submit my prescription to walgreens with a series of nods and grunts. I didn't think I would need pills past the first day, I used the whole bottle that weekend, except for 2 pills.

As for Vicodins vs Percocets, I only have limited experience but Percs do more for me than Vics do. Last night was Percs and booze. Slept like a baby.

I had a similar, but less horrifying experience. A couple of years ago I had to have two molars extracted. The actual procedure was done by professionals and went really smoothly, but after a week or two, I could feel something in there that was moving around and trying to poke through the gums. Once I decided that it definitely was a chunk of tooth that wasn't supposed to be in there, I cut it out with an X-acto in the bathroom at work.

Broke minds think alike. Or is it drunk minds? I dunno.

Bad timing... or is it good? Tommy gets his wisdom teeth out tomorrow, and I think I'm dreading it more than he is. Then again, I've BTDT.

There's nothing worse than handing your kid over to someone so they can hurt them, even if it is for their own good.

One piece of advice I'm glad I took from an older woman while I was waiting to have mine pulled: If they don't all HAVE to come out, don't take 'em all out, even if it's a 4 for the price of 3 special or whatever (it would've cost me the same to have 1 or all 4 taken out, as I just payed cash for the visit.)

She said she had hers pulled later in life, and had digestive problems from not being able to chew her food as well. I don't know if there's an ounce of truth to that, but I do know I 'favor' the side that still has both wisdom teeth, and have never had any problems with the remaining ones.

Before I left for basic training my father's "going away gift" was to have my wisdom teeth pulled. I didnt understand that for a long time but I was in the service 12 years and have been out for 11 more and the only work I've had done in that 11 years is to fix everthing that went bad from the shoddy work in the miliary.

For the first few years I couldn't go to a denist's office without them looking at me and immdiately asking "so how long were you in the military"

I'm pretty religious about taking care of my teeth now, no new cavities in 12 or more years but just keeping up on the old repairs is a full time job for my dentist.

I had fillings in nearly all my teeth before I went into the Navy... by the time I came home the local water authority had started putting fluoride in the system... the only cavities I've had since have come from cracks in old fillings allowing cavities to form

I know fluoride is considered evil / communist plot by some but I sure wish we'd had in the water supply when I was a kid

Growing up, I never had cavities... we had flouridated water. As soon as I moved to a place with well water.. I started getting Cavities

I've DIY'd a pretty nasty ingrown toenail (wife got pretty grossed out when I described what was about to happen while sterilizing both a steak knife and a pair of needle nose pliers with rubbing alcohol), but DIY dentistry? berkeley that.

I should specify that it was on the outside of the gum, rubbing on the inside of my cheek, barely below the surface. If I wasn't such a girl, I probably could've gotten after it with a steak knife. Didn't hurt nearly as bad as the "real" (student) dentist. (shrug)

First of all it took me forever to find a dentist in Denver. ( I'm on Coumadin and they don't like that too much). I sit in the chair and he asked me the exact same question. I had braces when I was younger but my dentist committed suicide and the job was never finished. My teeth are straight and no gaps or anything, But apparently he really berkeleyed up my mouth and the army double berkeleyed it up.
