So I'm coming back from an errand in my truck and I drop OD on the highway. This is a 1996 GMC C1500 auto. I get off the highway and stop and restart, doesn't help, fluid id fine, no weird smells. It then pops a code (1870-transmission component slipping) and I put some Lucas fluid in it. No change. I think I'm going to a shop since this isn't within my very limited area of skill, but I thought I'd see if there were any thoughts on it from here?

P1870 in GM's are typically pressure control solenoid problems. But in 4l60's they are valve body problems. Sonnax's Sure Cure kit addresses the problem.

Change the fluid and filter. Always worth a try. A pint of mystery oil can do wonders for sticky valve bodies.

Should be a cheap fix. The OD solenoid sometimes dies and the valve body separator plate gets worn and the OD check ball gets stuck in it. The $2 Sonnax kit comes with a little grommet that you put in the worn hole which is great if the hole isn't too bad. If the hole is mushroomed, just spend the $15 and buy a new separator plate.
