X-Plan, sounds sweet. From what I know he only gets one a year.

What's the automatic like in the Fiesta and Focus? She could probably learn manual for gas mileage savings, but if they are comparable in efficieny she'll just stick with the auto.

FLIPPING GARBAGE is what!!!! Words cannot describe how soul-suckingly pathetic the "Power Shift" auto is. It hunts like a drunken olde Englishman in the countryside, it responds like a government bureaucracy, and it's absolutely destroying Ford's reputation right now. Every car mag hates it, CR took the cars off of Recommended over it, and they have already had TSB's to fix the programming.

    RUN the ef AWAY!!!!

To heck with the magazines. I have a Fiesta with powershift and I love it. The problem is that it is different than the normal slush box. I now have 17+K miles with absolutely no problems. The computer has adaptive programing so It sort of learns your driving habits. The reason it gets better mileage is that is a six speed where the manual is five. The TSB's only apply to early builds. Mine was built in July 2010 and has not needed any TSBs applied.

Oh yes, it has a really neat program in low. Works nice in an auto cross. Always in the right gear. Goes right to redline before shifting up, then downshifts as you slow. The Hill Assist is handy also.

we love my wifes too. the power shift takes some getting used to and can be jerky in parking lots but is great once you get going. and my wife gets 43 pg on the highway at about 70, cant beat that. we got ours with sync but not myfordtouch just beause i heard it has a lot of issues and it really wasnt something we wanted to deal with. if you were going to get a hath anyways and dont want the powersift you could always get a mazda2, they arent as fancy and have less power but theyre not bad

oh yes, the 12 has a center armrest but it is fold down and chintzy and fels like its out of a 90s festiva i woud have rather got the boomerang one with storage and added that lol. and we drve the focus too and also couldnt justify spending more money for less options. we do nt have kids or anything so it is fine for us. and on the sedan the trunk is suprisingly deep

We're 99% sure we are going to get a new Focus SE in a few weeks.

I already have a subcompact and we are looking for something efficient to bridge the gap in between it and our beater minivan.

Here is my previous posts about car shopping for the wife.....we didn't really look at the fiesta...too small for us.

boo, girlfriend's mom made a call to the uncle and he's in the hospital with some real bad kidney problems.

So instead of asking for a deal on a car we're going to send flowers.

    Oh, life.

Fiesta can be had with a 5spd for the die hards. There are only a couple of TSB's that have to do with shift quality on the Powershift. There are a couple that concern the 5 spd also. Ford has a video out now that explains a lot about the Powershift.
