My laptop, a Asus 1215n, has an router talk issue.

Whenever the laptop goes into sleep or hibernates, it loses the wireless connection.

But I think it also does something to the old Linksys B wireless router. It kills the network connection!

So everytime I get on the computer after it has slept, I've gotta reset the router in order to get the signal back.

Anyone have any ideas on what's causing this?

DD-WRT on the router should help take care of it. Also, update the wireless and bios on the Asus

I'd work on the lappie first and do what GRtechguy says. If that doesn't fix the problem, then dd-wrt the router.

Yep, I've had that issue with other systems. Usually the driver is the culprit and some manufacturers are good about updating the drivers, others aren't.

If there isn't a newer driver that solves the problem, then the work around may be to not allow the system to hibernate, but to try suspending the system or simply powering it off.

As for the router, it likely isn't releasing the DHCP lease for the network adapter and resetting the router forces the clearing of DHCP leases.

Another option to try is to simply repair the network connection (if you have Win7/Vista) or if you have XP, temporarily disable the network adapter in Network Properties (right click on the adapter and choose disable) and then enable the adapter. That will usually force it to work and get a new DHCP address, etc.

    Good luck!

as mentioned i'd start with updating the drivers... so many things can be fixed with a simple driver update... and again like turboswede said could always have it just sleep instead of hybernate (uses more power but not enough to really matter)

as for the router... as mentioned DD-wrt works well (i'm running it on a 6 y/o wrt54gs and it works great...

but if your router is truely only a B class router i'd hop down to walmart and buy the cheapest belkin $30)... I had the older b/g version and while it was no frills i had very few problems with it... nothing an unplug-plug back in couldn't fix

Linksys BEFW11S4 is not supported by DD-WRT as it does not have enough internal memory.

Time to upgrade the router, then. 802.11b is oooold and sloooow. A cheap 802.11n router should be about $55 new, but if you're short on cash, you could probably pick up a used 802.11g router for cheap.
