    Yesterday I took off from work to do a rally for the homeless. It was mostly run through a Philly BMW club, but other cars were there and a bunch came down from NY.

    I have run with this bunch before, they tend to drive a bit too quickly for my day to day tastes.. but it is fun for once in a blue moon (or year in my case) thing.

    The NY guys ruined it for me. The two biggest offenders were an E30m3 with the E34 M5 swap with a turbo, the other being an uncorked (as in no mufflers) new M6.

    The M6 made my ears bleed on the back roads as I was stuck behind him for a while.. but once we hit highway, he turned into a major ass. He opened up the V10 and left me for dead.. pausing only in his desire to move slower cars out of the fast lane by declutching and revving the hell out of that loud V10 until they moved.

    I stayed back with the other slower cars at a sedate 85+ mph..

    These same guys got tagged on the way down from NY when somebody called in on the reckless hotline. Only one of the e92 m3s got a ticket..

    I think I now understand why BMW drivers are held in such low regard. It is almost enough to make me want to part with my Ti.

    Never again will I run with this bunch of idiots.

    Yeah but the sound of that V10 makes everything good. It has the sweetest exhaust note of any engine I've ever heard.

    You need hear one with no mufflers.. the first 60 seconds is aural sex... after that it just becomes grating and irritating

    Don't worry, I'm sure you weren't the only one turned off by their asshattery. I'm sure lots of bystanders now hate cars, fast cars, BMWs, those prticular BMWs, that club, or that event. Nice how a small handful of shiny happy people can sour something as pleasant as a driving event for charity.

    Yea, everytime i start to think i might want a bmw, i see people driving like that and i think eh, nevermind. Same with newer mercedes, the newer rwd mopars (trucks too), mustangs, and gm suvs (not that id want one of those anyway). I know there are mature, responsible drivers of all of the vehicles i mentioned, but they are associated with douchebags by too many people.

    It really did sour me some on the whole "scene". I really do not want to be associated with that kind of idiocy on the road. I honestly almost kept going when the rest finally turned off of the highway.

    I think I will be removing the rear badge on my Ti

    I was gonna go out with a local car club back in El Paso once. It was just a mix of cars, but they did drives often, and seemed cool to hang out with. But then I found out they basically turn every drive into a street race. Never went out with them, never wanted to again. Some people ruin it for everyone.

    aside from the sex jokes... this is going to make me really think about how I drive. I know I tend to be fairly conservative on the street and i love to give people lots of room when passing.. but now I wonder

    Thinking about how you drive (and how it may affect others) should be priority one every time you get behind the wheel.

    Track or street, makes no difference. YMMV, of course.

    I try very hard not to be "that shiny happy person in the Bimmer" but I hate the fact that now I am going to be second guessing myself and how people perceive me whenever I get behind the wheel.

    It was bad enough when a year ago I got a ticket for "careless driving" for allowing a bit of wheel spin when pulling out onto the main road from a corner that had some sand or other crap in it. The cop did not want to hear the fact that I have a 4 cylinder with sticky rubber.. as far as he was concerned, it was a BMW.

    When I was buying the Samurai the thought of being a guy in a Suzuki 4x4 really turned me off. The people who buy Vitaras down here are the people who would buy Suburbans in North America. Mind you it's quite rare to see an shiny happy person in a Sammy, but being even slightly related to those inattentive inconsiderate cell phone jockeys in Vitaras was enough to make me really think about it.

    there happen to be a red E46 m3 with a bunch of antennae and scanners and stuff there? I was going to get my zhp with him and what he proposed for the drive back from Iowa was a bit much, how these people still have licenses?

    I drive the MX6 like a grandma for this exact reason. I don't want to be that shiny happy person blowing fireball into the person next to me, and that spooling noise is annoying enough inside the car, let alone right next to me. I drive the speed limit, accelerate REAL slow, and piss people off by being THAT guy, instead.

    We had a charity run on Saturday also. Cars from all over met in Jasper, AR (literally the middle of nowhere) for lunch. Everyone brought some food for the food bank. I don't recall any porcupine cars there at all. The Jags running in front were going at a pretty good clip. My rev limiter, pictured here: was kicking in constantly. We had people from our club, the Little Rock English car club, the Corvette club, Miata club and I'm not sure if the Ford guys had a club or what.

    I would never allow how other people might perceive me to change my car buying choices.
    Unless it was a Miata. I can't have people thinking I'm a "secretary". Not that there is anything wrong with that.

    well, having driven my Ti today (she sat all day yesterday) I will not be giving her up. I enjoy driving that car too much. When I mean driving, I mean having fun.. and that does not mean triple digit speeds on the highway or blasting people to get out of my way.
