There's a Tractor Supply fairly near the Ocala Gran Prix circuit that we use as our regular test track. More than once their shelves have provided the solution to whatever strange automotive ailment was holding up a test or a photo shoot or test laps. Greg was upset by their lack of RX-7 parts, as I recall...

You guys are missing the best thing there: TSC occasionally sells a biscuit mix that makes the best damn biscuits I've ever eaten, and I grew up on my mom's homemade lovelies. It comes in a can, has some stereotypically southern picture on it, and is probably chock-full of trans-fats--which is why I buy it so seldom I can't remember the name. But those things are yummy with homemade sausage gravy.

Of course--all real biscuits do. And the fact you know to ask confirms, once again, that you are a truly educated man.

Have since 1989. I'm on my third. Why do I think that answering this was a mistake?

because you know that no self-respecting Southerner uses instant grits.

I use a bread machine now (got it for Christmas), and find that it's a nice compromise between homemade bread and convenience. It's not that bread is really difficult or anything, it just requires you to be around multiple times in a 3 or 4 hour period, which is annoying.

Oh--I get it. I came across as a bread snob because I know the difference between real biscuits and not.
Sorry, I may know the difference, but I still eat the hell out of the biscuits from the tube. And I realize bread machine bread isn't the finest thing out there, but it's better than Wonder.
I still refuse, however, to eat instant grits. Those are just nasty.

Around my house, I am the only one who eats grits (that's what I get for marrying a Yankee). So unfortunately I wind up with instant grits every so often and when I doll 'em up with sausage, diced jalapenos, etc. they are tolerable.

If you bake it in a normal breadpan you get a more normal crust. You know-nice light stuff on the top instead of just one end.
