I'm only slightly angry with the changes they've made to the Big E. Quintos has sold me that he is Spock, not Sylar.

I thought Zachary Quinto looked spot on for the role of Spock.
I cannot stand the Star Trek series, but the trailer made me rethink that about the newest one. Esp. the part with Captain Kirk and the Corvette...awesome.

Is it bad taste to say this film appears to be A New Hope for the Star Trek franchise?!
Looks awesome so far!

I've always wondered about the back story to Star Trek. We got to see a little of it in previous versions, so I hope they link the "time warp" movies with the loose ends in this earliest of the actual back story movies.

as a trekie, im conflicted, but as of now, I want to see it. Besides, Simon Peg is Scotty, so I have that to look forward to.

Somehow I never put togeter Star Trek technologies and stick welders...
...They did push the movie back a bit though eh (supposed to be a December release) seems like they are thinking it will be bigger than originally thought.
Could be a good restart for the franchise.
Oh, and I am pretty sure I say Vasquez rocks in a few of those scenes. A rather famous slanted rocks sci-fi filming spot near Los Angeles. Seen in the original series, Star Ship Troopers as well as Bill and Teds.

Large parts of NCC-1701 were built on Earth. Well, the original one. The NCC-1701-D was built in Mars orbit. NCC-1701-E was built in Earth orbit.

1701 was built in the San Francisco Shipyards (a facility in geosynchronous orbit over S.F.) but the location depicted in the trailer does not appear to be anything resembling San Francisco, or even any part of California. Looks to be the midwest somewhere. We all know Kirk is from Iowa, but the Enterprise wasn't.

okay, so if Im getting this right, this movie will fill the gap between "enterprise" and the original "star trek" series?

Seems like i read an article where JJ Abrams (or however you spell it) said it was more of a "reimagining" of the franchise so it doesn't necessarily follow the Star Trek timeline/history.
Some interesting casting choices....to be honest i fully expect it to be horrible, but i'm still seeing it day one

This is probably a good idea, but it will drive the "fan boys" crazy. I know someone who used to run the Paramount Star Trek website, he said is got pretty insane at times.

Didn't the first trailer for the new movie have assembly shots in orbit somewhere?

JG pointed out that you could see the welder's face, so unless he's good at holding his breath, they were on the planet.

plus my main source of info is about the retro fitted E from movies 1-3. I have a copy of "STAR TREK Mr. Scott's Guild to the Enterprise" It doesn't help that I am a secong gen trekie

SG-1 is fantastic, particularly the first 7 seasons. Battlestar Galactica is next on our TV-DVD list, maybe winter will bring a return to some episodic TV watching.

Having just moved from L.A. where I worked at Zach's favorite bar, I have some really funny drunken stories about him.
He often ordered (ironically) cosmos.
