I was going to add this to my automatic transmission thread, but I couldn't find it.

My wife's uncle passed away some time ago and they called me, "Hey, you're a car guy, what are these worth?"

Chuck's 1990 Chevy C-1500 and a 2004 Tacoma 4-door with 20,000 miles on it. I did the NADA and KBB research and told the widow.

Some time later I bought the 1990 Chevy for $2000. I commisioned some (insert word for bad service here) and it took two months for him to find a carrier. Anywho, it finally showed up.

It's been sitting under some kind of tree in north Georgia for month/years. Funky, moldy, stinky but running. Four days, pressure washer and about $70 of Maguires stuff made it OK to sit in.

Lotsa elbow grease, $2k purchase, $600 shipping and I've got a nice 1/2 ton truckie with 69,000 miles on it. Automatic with a 700 overdrive transmission.

Yes indeed, and from how you described it, you did a great job cleaning it up. Ever thought of doing detailing work on the side?

Not fair, you guys in the south should have to deal with the rust worms, too. Doesn't the humidity eat the metal, the temp swings and condensation? Yeah, I know: no salt...

Very nice truck. I don't think I have seen the inside of a bed that nice in a long time.

That is a seriously good score. The tonneau cover is just icing on the cake.

And that's a nice anniversary present to yourself.

I've had an '88 for about a year and a half now. Aside from the starter, nothing has cost more than $10 to fix. The vast majority of problems have been fixed with either spray lube or some other method of clean/lube. Never ceases to amaze me.

Nothing fancy, just solid, honest, and reliable. Like a truck should be.

That thing is gorgeous. Keep it out of the salt.

    Can't. It's a truck.

Well, at least try to bring it to hose the whole truck off and in and under the fenders a couple of times during the winter to at least get some of the salt out. It does help.

Shoulda called me, Dan! Was it in Ellijay? I could've driven it up! Anyway, nice truck. I may end up with one just like it (darker blue though.) Neighbor next door's is getting cheaper all the time. It's got transmission problems and he never ever drives it. Fires it up and burns gas once a month.

    Yep, 350 with I think a 700 tranny with overdrive. Definately not a TH 350 or 400.

Yeah it was Ellijay, but it sat so long I was apprehensive about driving an unknown 1000 miles.
