    The least-worst Nicholas Cage movie:

    Raising Arizona

Also, I thought that he was good in "Guarding Tess" (?), with Shirley MacLaine.

Yah, Cage is a Coppola. He changed his name to avoid... implications of nepotism.

I like the "National Treasure" movies a lot. I was also pretty entertained by "ConAir". 'Windtalkers" did not suck. "Gone in 60 Seconds" was not a great movie, but again was entertaining. "Raising Arizona" is a classic...and "Leaving Las Vagas" certainly shows that he can act if he puts his mind to it.

Let's face it, Cage is an acting whore... he'll act in just about anything for money. Nothing wrong with that... it's his job. If he was an a/c repair guy, it would be like giving him crap for working on cheap, badly made a/c systems versus high quality systems. But to the a/c repair guy, he gets paid either way to work on (and hopefully actually fix) whatever system he's called to work on.

On a similar note, Michael Caine once explained his participation in Jaws 4 (perhaps one of the worst movies EVAR!) saying he needed the money to buy his mom a new house. No excuses, no apologies. "It was a job."

I enjoyed the first National Treasure movie. Would have been better with a different actor IMHO.

My biggest problem with Cage is, no matter what the movie, he's the same person. There might be a little fluff on the surface, but the basic character doesn't seem to change. That nasal tone to his voice grates too.

I have liked what Nick Cage movies I have seen well enough. He is no great thespian, but he does alot of mindless action flicks that I find entertaining enough to watch.

Raising Arizona is wonderful. I mostly don't mind Nick, although I will agree he's done a lot of movies just for the cheque. He does play good damaged goof- Moonstruck was nice, light fare as well.

You guys talking about "National Treasure" have reminded me of a scene that irks me whenever the writers use this particular device; If the sun is to shine on a particular spot at 3pm, it needs to be a particular day. Not just any day at 3 pm. The sun will only hit the spot with the key/glasses/map once a year.

Family Man was good. Matchstick Men was good. Gone in 60 Seconds is one of my favorite films ever. Kick-Ass was good. National Treasure was good. The Weatherman was pretty good too.
