Hello, my name is Tanya. My husband and I just bought a 2010 Kia Forte Koup. I told my husband that I saw a speeding ticket in my furture...let me just say I have an interview for a job with the Psychic Friends Network next week...thankfully the State Trooper that pulled me over was very, VERY kind! A few days later I asked my husband where can I go to drive my car they way I wanna drive my car (fast, and hard) without getting another ticket!!! He suggested autocross, he started a thread himself (BARNCA) asking everyone their advice, thanks by the way for all of your ideas...I am really excited for this new adventure. Cannot wait to get started!!!

Welcome! It's just good that you're here with all the cool kids. Your husband is one of them, too.
If he's afraid that he's created a monster, just remind him that it's his fault. Then come to the boards for good advice.

Welcome! Autocross and rally cross are a ton of fun and not expensive to participate in. I definitely recommend it for learning the response of your vehicle in various maneuvers and also improving your skills and response time. If you go be ready to run after a few cones.
I like to work the course first shift so I can see where people are hitting the most cones and also where the experienced drivers are taking their lines and getting the most speed. Walk the course more times than you think you need to, afterward you will wish you had walked it one more time. Stand in the same position you will be in the car relative to the cones, ie: don't stand 3" inside a right side cone to gauge your entry into the next element, stand where you would be seated in the car, which will be a few feet from that cone. Get low and study the lay of the asphalt, and make note of areas of broken pavement or gravel. If a course map is offered, grab a pen before your course walk and make notes and draw stuff on there to remind you of the course. If you have the opportunity to walk with some of the more experienced auto-crossers, walk the course with them and look at the elements that they study the most. Most of all, have fun! Do it.

Congrats. Have fun. Welcome to the cult... I mean "club".
ECM's advice on auto-x is all good. The single most important thing is to have fun. If you're not having fun, you're doing it wrong.
